I have been on Chantix since late January...

I have NOT quit totally yet-- but down well over 1/4th of my usual 2-3 packs a day before Chantix...

I HATE the thought of quitting now-- losing all that ground-- But my mood swings and irritability are terrible--- almost out of control...

I feel like screeching at 90% of the people I see everyday-- and have been very short tempered with my family...

Anyone else?

I didn't use that stuff but read through old posts other people have had some similar side effects. Talk to you Dr see what he or she thinks you should do.
What ever you decide keep up the good work trying to quit it's so worth it.

Have you been able to quit the cigs totally yet? The sooner you get off of them and get the nicotine completely out of your system the sooner you will be able to target a quit time for the Chantix. I stayed on the Chantix for five months after smoking my last one, and, I too was not the most pleasant person to be around. It's temporary. It's manageable ... and, it's necessary!
Be determined .. be decisive ..... but don't give up now. Just tell everyone to get out of your way, cause you have something you really need to do! NOW!
I don't know about the Prozac, but hopefully it will relieve you of some of the "edginess". Best of luck to you!!

My dr has had me on Chantix since last July!! The first 3-4 months oh yea I was very bitchy.. good Lord was I ever! My husband who I had warned of the possible mood swings got upset by it as well as my kids and some friends. I just felt like I wanted to rip everyone a new one and I couldnt control it and it drove me bonkers. It's better now though thank goodness :bouncing:

Now you might be wondering why the heck I'm still on it? Well, I found that if I wasn't taking it I wanted to smoke and would, alot!! I never totally quit with it either... I went from a pack and a half a day down to 3 or 4, sometimes less. I only take 1mg day now and have since November. I'm still smoking the 3-4 a day... not grumpy anymore though. It's expensive staying on this med for this long but like my dr said, I'm spending less then I would be if I were smoking 1.5 packs a day. Also many people who go on the patch or gum stay on it long term sooooo she told me to keep taking it and keep trying to give up the few I'm still smoking out of physical habit and not addiction... sorry I rambled :D

Keep apologizing and make sure the people around you know this is a side effect that will go away and to please bear with you. And try to cut your smoking down quickly so you can get off it! I really want to not have to continue taking this pill forever.

Good luck

I'm sorry I just saw this ...it seems you'll have more side effects from the antidepressant. I really dont understand why doctors prescribe med after med to treat symptoms and the new med will cause more... weight gain, headaches, anxiety, hairloss, fatigue, constipation ...I'm sorry I just hate when dr's do that! If you're taking it I hope it helps ya
