Generally, the doctor puts you in a non-weight bearing cast because there might be broken bones that take time to heal and if you walk on it, you could prevent those bones from healing. The non-weight bearing cast is not made for walking and is unstable so you could lose your balance easily.

you could break up whatever healing is going on and also break down the cast. they put you in that for a reason.

If you walk on it you will undo everything your doctor is trying to fix. What would be the sense of even seeing a doctor if you are not going to follow his instructions. Non weight bearing means just that. The doc can tell if you walked on it by the way and do you really want to spent your entire visit getting your behind chewed? Think twice before you put that foot on the ground.

I had a non-weight bearing cast followed by a WB cast. The two casts were shaped very differently with my foot at a 90 degree angle in the WB cast. For me, it woud have been impossible to walk on the non WB cast! I certainly wouldn't suggest it!

I guess my question is, why would you want to? I mean that's gotta be a more painful option than not walking around on it.
