Can anyone tell me if an itchy rash could be a sign of liver disease? I'm talking about a raised, reddish-purple rash, with tiny, fluid-filled bumps. The rash is located on upper and lower back (in patches) of a very heavy drinker.

Have you lain outside on the ground with your shirt off? or worked under a house. Hookworms can easily penetrate unbroken skin. The larva produce a local papule(small bump)at it's entry site and later migrates through the skin producing tunnels over which vesicules(blisters)form at the surface. The tissue reaction to this migration causes intense itching in the patient and frequent secondary bacterial infection due to scratching.

In liver disease itching usually starts with no palpable rash. Just itching all over the body.

A rash can be anything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!From a contact dermatitis to lupus. ANYTHING!!!!!!

If you are worried about liver disease, get your liver tested and an ultrasound. To see if it is functioning properly and to visually ascertain fatty deposits, inflamation or abcesses.
