I am 31 years old and have had elevated liver tests for the past year. My doc thought it was from my gallbladder, since I had a gallbladder attack earlier last year, so he removed that, but my enzymes are worse now than they were before I had the gallbladder out. I've had a bunch of blood work for hepatitis and various odd diseases, but that was all negative. I had an ultrasound which showed maybe some fatty infiltrate into the liver, but my PCP thinks I may need a liver biopsy to rule out other inflammation or problems, etc. I'm going to see the GI doctor tomorrow and I was just kind of wondering if anyone else has had this kind of problem or has undergone a liver biopsy, because I wondered what it was like. Thanks!

Hi Pam
I've had elevated enzymes for the past year also, had all the same tests as you and found
nothing. I did have a liver biopsy and still nothing. The biopsy wasn't that bad, It was just a little uncomfortable, the worst part was laying flat on my back for 5 hours afterwards. Good Luck Max

hi pam,
I am going through the same as you. Last may
I had 3 cysts an ovary and tube removed, while I was in hospital I started to experience severe pains in the upper right side. I was given Gaviscon and told it was indigestion. By August I had been in and out of hospital about 4 times, They told me it was gallbladder, I had all the scans and test, but still nothing.I was almost sure I had caught Hepititus in the May. In the August they noticed the liver enzymes were high, but did nothing. The pain got worse and 3 weeks ago I was back in hospital and they compared the Liver enzymes and they were even higher. I have now been referred to a Liver specialist as very urgent as I also have Lupus with kidney damage, So I'll find out soon what they are ggoing to do to me.

HI Pam , for years my liver enzymes were elevated but none of my Drs could find the cause and said I just had high liver enzymes, finally a Dr did a different blood test which indicated primary biliary cirrhosis, after about 3 years I got brave enough to have a liver biopsy (actually was forced into it do to other health problems ) it was confirmed , I have PBC and autoimmune hepatitis. The biopsy itself took only a few seconds , then 5 hours of laying on my side, I experienced pain in my right shoulder and side for about 2 days , It took me almost 10 years to find the cause of my elevated enzymes. Good luck to you . AnitaL

HI PAM, I AM JUST GOING THRU THE SAME THING AT THE MOMENT. I HAVE BEEN SEEING SOMEONE ABOUT GALLBLADDER PROBLEMS FOR THE PAST 9 MONTHS, AS I HAVE BEEN HAVING THE WORST PAIN EVER, BUT I HAVE ALSO HAD HIGHT LIVER ENZYMES. I HAD ANOTHER TEST 4 WEEKS AGO AND THEY EVEN HIGHER. I AM DUE TO SEE A LIVER SPECIALIST UGENTLY TOMORROW AS I ALSO HAVE LUPUS WITH KIDNEY PROBLEMS. I DID NOT HAVE MY GALLBLADDER REMOVED AS THEY FOUND NO BLOCKAGE OR STONES. BY THE WAY, JUST LIKE TO THANK ANITA FOR TELLING ME ABOUT THE LIVER BIOPSY. GOOD LUCK

I just was told by my doctor's office that I have fatty infiltrate of the liver. What is this? It was discovered via CT Urogram I had recently, cause I was passing some blood in my urine along with pain in my (r) side of my back. I had some previous problem with the same kidney. Also, about 14 years ago I had an attack and I think I passed a kidney stone. (VERY PAINFUL) IVP was done then, but no stone(s)were found. A few years ago I had my gallbladder removed after a lengthy bout with sickness that worsened until my gallbladder was removed.
Regards.

Hi, that's so interesting to me, cause I didn't even relate the two, but I have 'fatty infiltration of the liver', and have had episodes of extreme pain only once every few months or so, but it feels like I'm having really bad cramps except they are all through my body, even up into my facial area. So, did you have elevated liver enzymes? That's what I had, and then I went through some hepatitis tests, and I even had one come out positive, but then the doc took some other more sensitive tests, and they came back negative, so with the ultrasound coming back with the results of fatty infiltration of the liver, the doctor assumed that it's fatty liver that is causing my elevated enzymes. Do you know of any treatement for it? I have been taking vitamin E each day, which I heard is good, and just trying to eat right but not being too successful. I was just wondering mostly about your enzymes, and if they are elevated, cause I did read that if they are elevated, you should have a biopsy, but my doctor didn't think one was necessary. Good luck! Thanks for any info, Valerie
