HSV-1 is the virus that is generally transferred by mouth to mouth kissing and is often passed on to children by doting adults. It therefore results in cold sores. Many, if not most, people test positive for HSV-1 and many of them never have any outbreaks.

Hi Barbie,
If you were given the IgG type specific blood test that is a great start as it is accurate. HSV-1 is typically oral BUT can also be genital (if someone performed oral on you and had the virus). Also, you can spread it even if you do not have signs or symptoms thats why out of all of the people diagnosed 90% didn't have signs or symptoms to know they had it.
As far as where the break outs would occur it would depend on where you have it.
