Hi, I recently found a bump/blister below my vagina. It is the first time I have ever seen anything like this. I have been with the same person for 3 years and we both had blood tests and I had a thorough pap test before we were sexually active. Every thing was negative for both of us. This bump I notices is very painful, at first it was below the skin then with irritation it looked as though skin was peeled off and was more like a sore. I had some hot baths and it seemed to go down although it is still there after 5days and still sore. It burns when urination goes over it. I went to my local health clinic today and got a swab on it, they said judging by how painful it was when they swabbed it, it could be a herpes lesion. However they also said that it looked as though there was a tear as well... About 2 days before this my fiance and I had oral sex, he had a tiny canker sore on the tip of his tongue... Could that be what I have?
My real question: Would herpes show in the original blood tests that I had? If I had it at that time? I have also had NUMEROUS blood tests over the years, especially recently, about 4 in the past six months, they weren't looking specifically for herpes but for any abnormalities/diabetes/white blood cell count/etc... If I had herpes, regardless of the type, would it have shown in any of the tests I've had??? Any response that you may have would be greatly appreciated, I am waiting for my results and they will take 1week so I am very stressed!
Thank you!

Hi,
If you go to the doctors and ask to have STD testing done herpes testing is not included as part of the routine std panel. You must ask specifically to be tested. To be on the safe side even though you had the sore cultured, I would recommend that you and your BF both go to the doctor and ask to have a herpes IgG type specific test done. That will give you the most accurate information.

Also, if he does ever get cold sores (which is typically HSV1) that indeed could be passed onto your private parts through oral.

I hope this helped :)

Thank you so much for your reply. Neither of us has ever had any cold sores... He just had a canker sore at the time. Is a canker sore a form of herpes? Sorry if thats a stupid question, just trying to figure this out... Do you or anybody who reads this know of anything else this could be besides herpes? I really need some hope here...lol.
Thanks again!

I just thought of some things that may or may not be relevant. A few days before the "lesion" appeared down there, around the time my fiance and I had oral sex, he also had a bad sore throat and cough... He never checked it out to see if it was strep throat or anything... Now I also have a sore throat. Is there anyway the sore I have could be connected to that?
Also, I was on the birht control Trycylcin 28s for about 6 years, I just switched to Yasmin not even three weeks ago becuase I have been having frequent yeast infections for the past 5 months or so, one with every period. As well as very very little spotting right after sex. I went to the clinic to check it out and they thought it would be a good idea to switch to Yasmin... Then 2 weeks later this appears OUT OF NOWHERE! coincidence??
Thank you agian!

I am hoping that it is not herpes because it would make things a lot easier for you, but the truth of the matter is you do not have to ever have an OB or visible sore to have HSV. More then 60% of the population have had a cold sore and about 25% may have a reoccurrence. I would still advise you to get the IgG test done this will also help because having HSV1 tends to have less OB then HSV2 and some say less chance of transmitting.

A canker sore is not a form of herpes, it is different.

Just a quick question the "yeast" infections that you had been having did you self diagnose yourself or did the doctor? I am only asking because sometimes a yeast infection and herpes have similar symptoms and normally just brushed off as nothing.

The switching of the BC...well I am not sure if it has anything to do with it although i have read things where some people say that when they started on BC they all of a sudden had an OB but I am not positive on how accurate that is, also i cant imagine the cold/sore throat would have anything to do with is. The virus tends to present itself with the immune system is a little on the downside, as well as being stressed out, fatigued etc.

Just know that if it is herpes your life is not over, its just a skin condition that is a bit of an inconvience. And when you know the status of your Finace, if he is negative for both know that the transmission rate of female to male is low.

If you have 100 couples where the female has HSV 2 but not the male (these figures are over a year) the odds of female to male transmission are if you do nothing other than avoid sex during an outbreak 4 men out of a 100 will get herpes in a year or 4% If you do go on a suppressive therapy then it drops to 2 men out of a 100 in a year or 2% and if you use suppressive and a condom the chances are 1 man out of a 100 will get herpes in one year or 1%.

This is over the course of a yr and based on sex 2 times a week.
