Hello!

Does you son have an IEP for school? Often if you can get an offical medical diagnosis there are plenty of assistant programs you can apply to depending on what state you live in. This can aid you in getting an IEP. If he has written into his IEP he needs help with school then an aid should be funded. Is he offically diagnosed?

if the team agrees on the need for your child to have an aide and it gets written into his IEP, then the school will provide the aide.

Talk to the school psychologist or other special ed professional that works with your child about your interest in getting an aide for your son and your reasons for thinking that he needs one. Any services on an IEP are based on the individual student's needs, not on the specific diagnosis.

The professionals that work with your son may or may not agree that he needs an aide, so be ready to support your request with specifics. As someone else explained, anything written into the IEP becomes the responsibility of the school district to fund and provide. If the district agrees that an aide is needed and the aide is written into the IEP, the district would be responsible for hiring and paying the aide. Hope this helps!
