I know that the big thing you hear is to stop drinking coffee all together if you have acid reflux. I stopped for 1 week and saw no difference, but my hubby says that 1 week was not enough time. My gastro dr said that it wasn't going to hurt me.

I used to drink 2 cups of Half-Caf every morning with sugar and Fat Free Coffeemate (dairy and gluten free). NOw I'm drinking Folger's Simply Smooth Decaf. I don't notice any difference in my stomach. Has anyone else tried that before? Is there any coffee that's supopsed to be OK for us to drink?

Coffee ups your stomach acidity, that is why they recommend you stop drinking it. There are a couple of manufactures that make low acidic coffee, Puroast, Hevla and others. Just do a web search for low acid coffee.

Thanks for responding. I guess that's what I was wondering about the FOlger's Simply Smooth coffee since it says it's gentle on your stomach. I was wondering if it's really true?

my "chart" that I refer to often, says that black organic coffee is alkaline-producing in the stomach. Although I don't drink it, my naturopath told me that tea with skim milk was okay; it's the milk and sugar that are acid-forming.

If you like a hot drink, slowly try to drink more green tea. It's not only alkaline, but it's proven to be otherwise very good for you!

Coffee definately flares up my acid reflux. I went 6 weeks without it and pretty much cleared up the reflux. I gave up other things too so it was a combo of things. But now I am back drinking it occassionally and I can always tell because I get the junk in my throat and have to keep clearing and the flare ups. I have to decide wether it's worth it to cheat or not. No fun, I know. :(

Tedd - How long were you off the coffee before you noticed any difference?

I'm asking b/c I have gone off all coffee twice, for a week each time and I didn't notice any difference, which is why I started drinking it again.

I'm not a tea drinker at all but have tried it several times. I have been drinking the decaf Folgers with plain sugar (baby spoon size) and a small amount of Coffeemate French Vanilla (which is dairy and gluten free) so there should be an issue with the dairy there. I used to use Splenda but I stopped to see if that made any difference.
