My friend is a serious alcoholic, 20yrs+. He detoxes himself off and on. He had serious nose bleeds and now black tongue after a detox. He has all the symptoms of liver damage. Is it too late for him? He is up with family, hopefully getting help? He doesn't eat for wks sometimes, bladder uncontrollable at times... just drinks! He is 52, doesn't smoke, eats well (when he does eat) lies!! strange behavior... I sent him up to his family in hopes of help... I just wonder is he too damaged for help? He's done all the rehabs and doesn't care...everyone has "given up" on him, I think there is always hope! I have lived with this man and seen it all... very scary. He is kind and loving but "sick"!!Hes been to AA etc without help. Is this something I should give up on? I truly care for him, He probably wouldn't care for me if he soberd up but I would rather him healthy than being with me. He is very well off, so money is not a problem. It seems his wife, who keeps her distance, is waiting for the inheritance, and the family is too ashamed. But he is up there with them now and I am just the "other women" waiting for a call. I am afraid he is dying, is it too late?

I'm not an expert on alcoholism but I feel there's always hope where there is life. Maybe he will come to his senses and realize that you may have saved his life. Good luck and God's speed to all of you.

Hi cardinal ~ good luck with your friend. You sound like an Angel sent to him to look after him. Just do your job as best you can and God will do the rest for him. It's not fun to watch ~ my h/b is a serious alcoholic also and nothing you say seems to change things. It must be a horrible way to live ~ losing all that you love and all respect from people. Take care of yourself and him!
