Need suggestions on how to cleanse the liver? Either natural, herbal or otherwise.
Thank you,

There are a number of protocols out there and I am going to be trying one eventually that involves a 3-day juice-and-broth fast. I am not quite ready for that yet, but am working my way up to it. There are also herb tinctures incolved as well as a detox tea. I have heard from people who have done this that you feel years younger afterwards, so I am looking forward to it.

I am quite interested in trying this too. Perhaps we could help eachother along and report our findings/results.

I've been juicing using beets and dandellion and to this I add milk thistle and aloe vera and I take artichoke tablets. All five are known to be excellent liver healers. My next step is, "Coffee Enema". Do a search for the procedure. Be sure to use organic caffeinated coffee. This old age procedure is used to remove fat, poisons and toxins from the liver.

When you say you have been juicing, do you mean you make your own juice or purchase a beet juice and add suplements to it. Sorry if these questions seem stupid. I'm new to this subject and am trying to learn all I can. Thank you.

I make my own juice using beets and the stems and dandellion greens. I add to this milk thistle (tincture bottle) and aloe vera juice. I can't find fresh artichokes (probably out of season) which I would also juice so I use artichoke extract tablets instead (320mg). I take 6 tablets a day. Starting tomorrow, I plan to add carrot and apple which will sweeten the juice and these are also recommended for liver problems. Juicing is fantastic for promoting good health. The downside is cleaning the juice machine (LOL). You shouldn't store fresh made vegetable juice......make and immediately drink it. Lots of positive studies have been done on the benefits of artichoke for liver health. Happing Juicing.

I took up juicing a few weeks ago and I have bought several juicing books to get me started. Beets are great for detoxing the liver. So is lemon juice. What I do there is squeeze a whole lemon into 8 oz of warm water at lunch and before I go to bed. I also take milk thistle supplements 3 times a day. Artichoke and dandelion are two more herbs good for live support. You may be able to buy liquid or powder forms to add to your juice. I know that's how some smoothie shops do it but I have never done it myself. Most books also suggest some sort of 3 day juice fast which really accelerates the detox process. you may want to read about fasting before you start because you are supposed to lead into fasting by eating fruits and veggies only for about two days before the fast. When the fast is over, you are supposed to not jump right back into eating what you want but rather ease back into eating. Don't quote me on all that because I am just regurgitating stuff I have read. In general, juicing books have a lot of information on detoxifying the system. I'm sure there is plenty of info on the net also. Good luck!

Years ago I went to a Florida Health Resort and went through a supervised 7 day water/juice fast. It was an incredible experience and I'm thinking about doing another one. I was stunned at the amount of poisons and toxins that were released from my body. They came out in vengence through the skin and mouth. I had to shower at least 3 times a day. At the end of the fast I felt incredibly well and healthy. Those who take fasting seriously and do it often usually fast 21 days. There's lots of information on the internet regarding fasting and also books can be purchased. It's best to be away from home at a health resort. A 3 day fast would not be completely effective. The ONLY way to detox and removes poisons and toxins is fasting. There is no short cuts like taxing a detox tea or other products. What's important is taking at least 4 quarts of liquid a day. When I was fasting there were several models and other thin people fasting so it's just not for losing weight. It's about removing harmful poisons from your body. I truly had a truly healthy and restful 7 day vacation.

And one more thing to add about fasting. Don't do a water only fast. That will speed up the detoxing process but in an unhealthy way. A resort would sounds like something I would like to try someday. Fasting at home takes some getting used too. So many temptations around.
