I’m not sure where to post this question; maybe this is the right forum.
My long-term boyfriend just found out he has elevated liver enzymes from his case manager at the mental health facility he receives services from. He has Bi-polar Disorder and Anxiety along with many other mental health issues. She was not specific and pretty unhelpful. I’d say her comments about alcohol abuse and hepatitis were downright frightening.
He’s 38; 15 years ago he did abuse alcohol. He was completely dry for 5 years and now has about 5 servings a week mostly on the weekends. He has been prescribed many psychotropic meds over the last 5 years and has regular liver function tests. This is the first less then normal result. Right now he is taking 4mg of Risperdal, 400mg of Lamictal, 60mg Serax and .5mg of Xanax (PRN).
We are following up with his PCP and psychiatric nurse practitioner, but I want to understand what might be happening to him better. Can any one point me in the right direction? Everything I’ve found about it on the web talks about jaundice and other symptoms that he does not have.
Thanks.

You might want to try getting Dr. Sandra Cabot's liver cleansing book. I also have elevated liver enzymes and reading it right now and there is a lot of info that I think you would find helpful. To find her book, just do a search under Dr. Cabot liver cleansing diet.
