Should I give my son vitamins once he goes on whole milk? Right now he is getting GoodStart Soy 2, for 9-24 month olds. But I mix it with whole milk, about 4 ounces formula and 3-4 ounces whole milk, and he is tolerating it well. So, I was thinking of putting him on whole milk only. But, I want to give him a vitamin to make up for the nutrients he would be loosing by not being on the formula. I will ask his doctor at his next appointment; but I was wondering how others handled the switch.

We just went straight from formula (enfamil) to whole milk after his one year old well visit and he took to it right away. We do not give an extra vitamin to him, the pediatrician said the whole milk was all he needed along with his regular food. He drinks about 2-3 6oz. cups of whole milk per day. I would ask your pediatrician and go off of those suggestions. Goodluck.

I think the whole milk (cow's milk) is enough. My friend has a 2 yr old that was breastfed until about 6 months ago. She pumped and saved ber breastmilk for him, but it is all gone now. He refuses to drink cow's milk. He only drinks water or juice. She has to give him a vitamin each day because of this. I don't think it's necessary unless they won't drink milk.

I'm having the same issues. My DD is 12 months. At 11 months we started putting cow's milk in her formula and she hated it. We also tried switching her "cold-turkey" straight to milk and it didn't work. We tired warming it and she just won't drink it. She gets upset when she notices it has been mixed in with her formula. I'm to the point where I'm ready to put some strawberry or chocolate in it to see if she will drink it. I may be in my friend's shoes soon and have to supplement with vitamins. But for now my DD still drinks formula and my friend did not have that option. How long is too long for a child to be on formula?

I would keep offering it apparently it can take up to 10 times of offering for a baby/child to accept it!
I would try cows milk when your LO is really hungry then they will probably have some and star getting used to it..
I think you can offer formula for quite a while yet, check with your ped.
