Non-drug means to try to improve your lipid profile:

Lowering LDL:

* Lose excess body fat.
* Avoid trans-fat from hydrogenated oil.
* Avoid saturated fat from red meat fat, milk / cheese / butter fat, and coconut / palm oil.
* Replace the above with unsaturated fat from vegetable sources (not hydrogenated, not coconut / palm oil).

Raising HDL:

* Increase exercise.
* Avoid trans-fat from hydrogenated oil.

Lowering triglycerides / VLDL:

* Avoid sugars and simple carbohydrates.
* Avoid alcohol.
* Lose excess body fat.

Also, be aware that people from India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh have a probably genetic predisposition to heart disease. Enas A. Enas notes in his book How to Beat the Heart Disease Epidemic Among South Asians: A Prevention and Management Guide for Asian Indians and Their Doctors that India has about four times the rate of heart disease as the US does, and that Indian Americans have about four times the rate of hospitalization for heart disease as white Americans, and about six times the rate of Chinese Americans.
