Hi guys, See I popped ecstacy at a party about 5 weeks back, and about a week after I had this nausea , vomitting etc......generally not feeling to good. Went in for the entire check-up and came up with raised Bilrubin, S.G.O.T etc....up to 275 it was the S.G.O.T. and the Bilrubin 3.5... Getting better now...in fact I'm as good as back to normal. Now for the question. If anybody there can please answer this for me....see I'm a drinker. I drink everyday....not too much though , about 3 shots of whiskey in the evening before dinner. Now these last 4 weeks i have'nt had a drink on account of how I was feeling. But now that I'm feeling fine I get this terrible urge to fix myself a drink and I have these friends of mine tell me....my doc as well... tell me I need to lay off for a year before I have another drink. Is that true??? Does one have to wait for a drink for a year before he has a drink??? God....sounds like ...I dont know. Somebody please answer will ya..

Why would you risk it...just wondering? Not only do I not touch alcohol, but I try to eat as healthy as possible. This question would be like asking a smoker(if he had breathing difficulties) if he should lay off smoking for a year. It sounds like your liver is telling you to back off. I doubt anyone hear would just say to go ahead and drink next week, month..but maybe. Since your doctor knows you best and has your history, I would do what he says. But that's me...maybe others will disagree. Sorry for sounding harsh, but I work so hard at keeping my liver enzymes down for fear of dying and leaving my kids/husband behind. Your liver can renew itself, yes...but it can also get so scarred that you get cirrhosis...and that isn't a pretty picture..ugly way to die.

Some drinkers develop alcoholic hepatitis, or inflammation of the liver, as a result of long-term heavy drinking. Even a few drinks a day can cause severe problems. Its symptoms include fever, JAUNDICE (abnormal yellowing of the skin, eyeballs, and urine), and abdominal pain. Alcoholic hepatitis can cause death if drinking continues. If drinking stops, this condition often is reversible. About 10 to 20 percent of heavy drinkers develop alcoholic cirrhosis, or scarring of the liver. Alcoholic cirrhosis can cause death if drinking continues. Although cirrhosis is not reversible, if drinking stops, one's chances of survival improve considerably. Those with cirrhosis often feel better, and the functioning of their liver may improve, if they stop drinking. Although liver transplantation may be needed as a last resort, many people with cirrhosis who abstain from alcohol may never need liver transplantation.

If you feel like you life is unmanagable and you are pre occupied with the thought of a high than maybe you need to look at the AA board..Lisa
