Hi everyone,
Please help me with these test results: I have been experiencing lethargy, hand tremors, and loss of appetite, poor memory. Last year I was treated for low thyroid with synthroid. My labs came back today ;
TSH 0.18 range .35-5.50
T4 Free 1.1 0.9-1.8
T3 Free 3.7 2.3-4.2
I was diagnosed with IBS last year, and am currently taking Zoloft. I am taking a radio-iodine uptake test on 11/03. Does any of this sound familiar? Thanks.

Well, it looks like you have secondary hypothyroidism...i.e. pituitary failure. The reason I say this is that ALL of your thyroid tests are low, and not just your TSH level. This makes sense with your clinical picture given your symptoms, and the fact you're on synthroid! :)
One thing about your IBS...it may not be IBS at all, but a side-effect of being hypothyroid....after all, many processes in the body slow down when you are hypothyroid, and this can include the GI tract which can give you all sorts of bowel symptoms.
Thirdly, yes, the radioiodine uptake scan (RAIU) is familiar, and they want to see the integrity of your thyroid tissue. They want to make sure that your thyroid itself is not sick...in this case, I don't think it is because, like I said before, your TSH is low. If your thyroid was sick, your TSH would be high.
Question, though, why did you post this in the liver section?

My labs were very similar to yours. And my symptoms are: sluggish, headaches, muscle aches.
What do you do if it's pituitary related?
I also have some IBS and elevated liver enzymes. You may want to get tested for Celiacs disease. Many have all of these above and Doctors rarely check for it.

I don't have those listed on my labs. I had palpitations most of last night; could that be related to thyroid?

Hi grrfnx...
I had been on synthroid since I was 16 years old. Doctor told me I would be on it the rest of my life. Well, low and behold about 15 years later my heart was racing, beats skipping and blood pressure up! I thought I was having heart attacks. I had no idea what was happening.This would happen daily at aboutt he same time each day! I ended up at the drs. he took my blood pressure and it was 260/80 something. He did and EKG and called me back the next day (saturday morning) and said I had a "sinus tachycardia" and to stop taking the synthroid immediately! There is a name for this but i can't remember it. The irregular heartbeat still goes on, but not like before, but i now know that when it starts it's "not life-threatening" and it will stop shortly after a few minutes. Please tell you dR. about this. My palpitations have ended me up in the hospital many times and as soon as they hook me up they ask me if I know that i have this "disease". I finally got it pretty much under control, but my weight has shot up drastically (about 140#'s up from where I was). I barely eat anything and still gain. I think it's time to go back to a dr. and get this re-checked.
