Has anyone ever tried a "liver cleanse" product and if so any feedback?

I was just told I have a fatty liver and wondering if a product like that would help.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I have not tried a product yet that is specific to cleansing the liver, but I do need to and will be doing that in the next few months. However, I have been doing a major cleanse through my diet, to help my liver function better and get rid of the fatty deposits. It has been going slowly but well. You may wish to consider a diet change as well toward more foods that are kinder to your liver because it is a fair bet to say that a cleanse product alone will not do everything, especially if your liver is continually being overburdened.

Thanks for your advice.

I have changed my diet to a lowfat diet since the Atkins diet is what is suspected of causing my current problem. My thought was a lowfat diet, combined with the cleansing and daily Vit E. I have to go back for my sonogram results in 3 weeks, but figured if I try these before I go, maybe my bloodwork will come back better .. and my energy level might increase.

I got Dr Cabot's book on the Liver Cleansing Diet .. curious what foods actually clean the liver ... would you happen to know?

Wow, some of you are describing me to a tee! For about two months I've been having that very same discomfort under my right ribcage. I also have noticed a small bulge on the right side (actually I noticed that before I felt any discomfort) which is what really freaked me out! I also feel it mainly when sitting down for long periods and almost never when I'm doing something active. Like a lot of you I'm tending to think it is stress related, as it doesn't seem to bother me on relaxing weekends or when my mind is on other things. But when it's there, it's definitely there! I went to the doctor last week and am waiting for the results on the blood/urine tests, so posting here under "no named pain" might be premature. But so far, the descriptions of what you all are feeling are the closest to what I'm going through that I've found. It's quite a relief to read all your posts and see that this may not be life-threatening (like I tend to worry about) as I wait the results of my tests! Thank you all for sharing and best of luck to you all!

PS.. This could be totally unrelated but JUST before I noticed this, I had a short-lived (two days) rash that the doctors couldn't explain either. I have NEVER had weird health problems before and since it came so close to this thing, I thought it might be related. Anybody in here notice anything like that?

I have Dr Cabots book too...I am finding it challenging to keep up with the diet, and unable to juice as frequently, etc. But, I am following at least the healthy foods to eat and I haven't had sugar in 3 days...and never eat white flour (allergic to it). There is a page in the book that tells you what food is especially good for the liver...carrots, brocolli are two that I can think of off hand.

Ps. the Atkins diet made me very sick too, but not the cause of elev. liver enzymes.

I am anxious to get my book ...hopefully it can't be any harder to follow than Atkins was.

If you don't mind my asking, what happened with you and the Atkins diet?

Well, with the Atkins, I was eating bacon, cheese, dressing, mayo (all the foods I love the most that were allowed). And, after three weeks, my face started swelling, puffy eyes, severe pitting edema to my lower extremities, passing out, heart palpitations, elevated liver enzymes, and triglycerides through the roof that almost caused me to be hospitalized.

If I had been following the South Beach diet, I think I would have been fine.

I am sorry to hear you had such trouble. I had some of what you mention above which is what made me go to the doctor. More pronounced for me though was the fatigue ... almost to the point of sitting at a red light and falling asleep!

Since you've been off of atkins have all your symptoms gotten better? I go for bloodwork again next week to see if my liver enzymes went down at all after eating 'normally' for the last 3 weeks. My doctor is most concerned with my liver enzymes (AST 72 ALT161) and said if she sees that they are heading down with the diet change, then that was the cause (after ruling other things out of course)

Just wondering if a lowfat diet can reverse the damage that Atkins did ...

I got sick on Atkins also and also found out I had celiacs disease (GI disease). So, when I ate gluten free food, low fat, and very little sugar, plus shop at health food stores, they are just about normal.

The liver is an amazing organ that can regenerate if the thing you are doing that is harming it has stopped...unless severe damage has been done....from what I understand anyway.
