First thing you would do is talk with his Ped. That's what I did. When my, now 6, son was 5 his ped suggested it to me based on how he'd seen him over the years. They had me, his daycare teacher, his Pre-K teachers all fill out assessments on him. The dr scored them and then based on that and his observations deemed him ADHD Inattentive type. We then began seeing a child psych because the meds weren't helping with rages and meltdowns that he was having and he was diagnosed Bipolar NOS as well. Anywho, start with your ped and go from there, they'll know what to do. Good luck!

Check with your Pediatrician first and get a second opinion. You should also be careful about anyone suggesting medication, especially at his age.
To give you a little background on me. I am an ADD adult with a 5 year old ADD son. I take medication and he doesn’t because of his age. Each person’s ADD is different, so medication may be appropriate in some circumstances, and not in others.

Some docs will say a 4 to 5 year old is to young to be tested for ADD ADHD. They say at that age they all have short attention spand and can not stay still for too long. They say after the age 6 is where they can pretty much tell if they do.

Some parents and teachers are pretty good at figuring this out. You can check out the DSM IV on the internet and do your own questionnaire. Then get her diagnosed by a professional. In my opinion, your gut feeling will shine through... if you think she/he has it, they probably do...cath

I had a feeling that my son was more active then a normal kid should be. he was sooo active sence the day he was born. teaching him was very hard , for he coudn't stay still long enough. When he entered pre-K he was doing fine and kindergarden he did well too, but when he went to first grade he had to be still at a desk and do his work by him self. well thats when notes started coming home. saying "he can't stay still, he want stay focuse on his work'' so on and so on. I new thise day would come. Well I did finally went to see a doctor and he tested him and put him on concerta. The notes stop coming home and the teachers stop coming to my car to talk to me.Its been two years now and he seems to be getting more and more active. He is starting to ware me down. I thaink I need to be on something to calm my nerves lol :dizzy:
