I have had a constant internal pain in both sides of my back where my lungs are for about a month now. It is not a bad pain but it is always there and very annoying. I mostly feel it when I take a deep breath. It feels like my lungs are too small and they are stretching like a rubber band when I take a deep breath. It feels like my lungs are bruised or something. I have no cough whatsoever so I don't understand. I am 27 yrs old and have smoked for 12 years, I recently quit 7 weeks ago, so that is the reason I am so paranoid it is lung cancer. Also, I went to my doctor yesterday and she said that the muscles in your back have to expand when you inhale, so she said it is a back problem not a lung problem but I know my body and it feels like my lungs. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance

i knew someone who died of lung cancer last year, she had an occasional pain in the middle of her back, not at all related to her breathing. have you considered you may have emphazema or some type of copd since you smoked? go to a pulmonologist with those symptons.

You may have pluresy. It is an inflammation of the plurea, the outer covering of your lungs. It can hurt very sharply like a knife plunging into you when you take a deep breath. The treatment is anti inflamatory drugs like asprin or motrin and moist heat on the affected area.

You should still see a specialist just to be certain.
