Hello Everyone,

I need your help for a quite annoying problem. I feel hopeless because the doctors were not able to suggest a consistent way of treatment.
I'm 53 now and suffering from bronchiectasis since 14.

My current symptomps show that i have the bacteria 'pseudomonas aereus' and i've been having intense medication for the last 3 weeks but the bacteria still exist. One of my doctors have told me that the bacteria's been feeding upon another problem, which i've been suffering also. It's the sinusitis and he sugggests that i should have a surgery.

My question is, would this surgery help the treatment of brochiectasis and also is it safe for me to have narcosis ?

Thanks in advance

Hi Angela,

Your post is so old so I'm not sure you still read or post here. Anyway I'm just wondering how you are doing. I'm wondering if your docs have ever tested you for a cilia disorder? Your symptoms all though not uncommon of other things are consistent with PCD. How many times have you cultured for 'pseudomonas aereus' ? Did your doc ever say if it was colonized or not?

I hope you are doing well
Take Care
Lynn

Pseudomonas aeuriginosa can be quite difficult to get rid of.

The surgery for sinustitis might help, and doctors aren't often quick to recommend surgery if they aren't sure that it'll help a fair amount.

Wrin is very right...P. aeruginosa is very difficult to treat; there are only a handful of drugs that can get rid of it. Which one are you on? One thing with brochiectasis is that you also get a bug called Burkholderia cepacia....more often this happens in people with cystic fibrosis (who also end up getting bronchiectasis), but it can affect people without the disease as well.

As for narcotics, it all depends on how your blood gases are. If you are a CO2 retainer, or are chronically hypoxic, it's likely that narcotics, which cause respiratory depression, can make things worse.
