Hello, I had 2 lung surgeries back in 1996 due to blibs. I have recently started to feel simular pains again. I went to a lung specialist yesterday and all he did was look at a week old xray and told me that I was fine. Is it possible that this could be a reoccuring situation? My doctor back then called them pneumo thorax's. Is it possible to get them again after having 2 surgeries to correct it? Please email me at rfhrms60@hotmail.com if you have any information for me. I am really concerned that it can all be coming back again. Thank you.

What is blibs and why not ask your doctor if it can happen again and if your not sastified with your doctor it's time to go to a new one.
God Bless.

If you just had chest tubes then it can happen again. I had one serious pneumo thorax and believe that am experiencing a small one since yesterday.

Pnuemos (and blebs) can happen repeatedly or can be a once only occurance....some people have lungs that seem to be predisposed...it can happen to kids, older smokers (and young smokers), those who never smoked, physically fit and even couch potatoes...!
Pnuemo-thoraxes can also be caused by trauma (closed pneumos). We frequently see them after car accidents. They can be caused by severe coughing- esp with asthma (generally the sponaneous pneumos-these are the blebs). Tension pneumos occur when air enters the pleural space on inspiration but cannot leave it on expiration. These can also be caused by blunt trauma. Open pneumos occur when penetrating chest wounds open the intrapleuarl spce.
So, yes, obviously pneumos can occur after surgery to close, after chest tubes or spontaneously..
If you feel symptoms-consult the dr. If, as you did after seeing one, the symptoms do not go away--see another dr. The HMOs and such cause trouble with that...but ultimately, you have the right to another consult....Good luck

Yes, go get a new xray right away. Because of my 3 spontaneous lung collapses, I now carry an xray-admitting form to get one at a moment's notice at my own xray lab, circumventing the emergency room experience. The new tiny chest tubes...make sure you "shop" for that...sorry you are feeling those icky sensations again...Glenda2
