Hi,
I had both done at the same time in January and I can honestly tell you that I would never have them done separately!
I did not want the anxiety of two separate procedures nor have to be sedated (I was totally knocked out) twice.
Everything went very well and I did fine. I went home and slept.
Good luck.

Hi Shopgirl37,
Both my husband and I both have had both the endoscopy and colonoscopy at the same time. I would personally recommend doing both in one session, for a few reasons.
The preparation is required for both procedures, and that is the most challenging part. If you can avoid doing the prep twice, I would.
The actual procedure is a piece of cake, and you will have no memory of it at all. If you can accomplish both in one visit, I think that is a great benefit.
This is one of those things that most of us dread, and the anticipation of your first one is typically much worse than the actual event. I often post to reassure people about oscopy's because they are nothing like you think. After having my first one, I felt clean, and enjoyed knowing everything was fine "down there".
I wish you the best. If youu have any more questions, I will be glad to answer them. I usually check the boards a few times a day.
Been there, done that!

Some insurances won't cover both at the same time. Mine didn't.

Hi MountainReader,
I remember you saying that about your insurance before.
I had no problems with mine. All I had to pay was my deductible.
Hope you are doing OK.

Chantal,
Thanks for asking. I'm glad all went well with you.
Both my Endoscopy and Colonoscopy went well.
Endoscopy: No reflux damage, just a sliding hernia that I'd had previously diagnosed with other testing. Had a nissen fundoplication last October for the reflux. I haven't had any reflux triggered breathing problems since.
Colonoscopy: a bit of diverticulosis I have to monitor. Now officially diagnosed with IBS. Still trying to figure out best treatment for that. Could have been much worse though.

I just had both colonoscopy and endscopy done 2 weeks ago at the same time. And would never do them seperately because it is all over at one time and you only have to do the prep and the sedeation one time rather then to have to worry about it twice. Unless you have a problem with insurance like another poster had.
