 On January 1st of this year my wife went to bed with a headache. Problem is we did not go out and celebrate the New Year we stayed home and watched T.V. The next day she still had the headache. To summarize what has been done she has taken over-the-counter migraine medicine, Percacet, and Vicodins for pain. In addition, she’s had three nerve blocks to the back of her head, she’s had numerous injections of toradol, fenagrin, DHE, and has been to the ER numerous times. My wife has undergone MRIs, MRA, and MRVs of the head and neck but they cannot find the cause of her pain. They said she had a “thunderclap headache” with a migraine that has gone awry. She also had a lumbar puncture and a CT scan. In addition, she was hospitalized for six days for her migraine. She got no relief with the IV DHE that she was given. She’s also tried three separate stints with steroids, was on 750 mg of Depakote for three weeks, and it now up to 200mg of Topamax daily. She still takes over the counter pain meds and her DHE shots as needs. She’s gone to the chiropractor numerous times, she’s seen an acupuncturist, and an eye doctor with no luck. In February my wife’s neurologist sent her to a pain management specialist who is an expert in migraine headaches. As of today her symptoms are still the same. Looking for some kind of an answer.

Wow. The poor thing. Wish I had a solution for you but all I can offer is a suggestion. Has she tried massage therapy yet? It might be worth a try.

I am right there with you and your wife. My headache started in October. I had some relief for about 6 weeks at about the 3 month point with a combination of beds and a chiropractic treatment, but the headache came back 2 weeks ago, and is now as bad as it ever was. My neurologist had me try an increase in my Topamax, but that is not working and I am going to have to go back in and see his partner who treats nothing but headache patients. Is your wife carrying a diagnosis of transformed migraine? Apparently they can be very hard to treat- as if we haven't figured it out. It sounds as if you have tried even more than I have. Please let us know if you find something that works- Good luck!

I can completely understand... I was in a work accident 6 and a half months ago and have been dealing with horrendous pain every single day now... It's completely awful. I was doing some research and found a doctor by the name of Dr. Seymour who works at the diamond head ache clinic in Chicago who does histamine drips. I was looking up suicide headaches, which are extraordinarily intense headaches.. obviously, and I found his name.. not sure if you are familiar with histamine, I'm sure you are after all your research, but it causes vaso-dilation and has been said to relieve intense migraine pains. There have been patients who have spent a week or so in the hospital on these drips and have gone up to a year or so without pain. I have no idea if it would work on your wife, but hey... Im sure she is as desperate as I am, which means she'll do anything, and life is probably rather miserable for her... Hopefully she's in a pain management group so she has people to talk to about it. It's so completely exhausting... Let me know if you have any success, I would love to go, but I'm having extreme trouble with insurance and doctor's don't seem to want to help... Good luck and keep me posted
