I had my gall bladder removed last year due to 3 small pollyps. I thought the pain would go but it hasn't. Its taken a year for my doctor to finally send me for a chest xray. I have pain in my upper spine and in the muscle to the right side of it. my xray isn't until this afternoon. Could this be thorasic symptoms? The pain goes all round my right rib cage, I also have constipation. Pain is 24hrs a day.

from what you have described here,i REALLy do think he should up that plain x ray stuff to an actual contrasted MRI instead. it would show alot, espescially the spinal column all the way down the the cord level. there are just SO many different possible problems we can have going on within that spinal area that can create all kinds of ongoing symptoms, sensations and very real pain. this one test would either rule in or out that area as the possible cause. the banding sensation you described is very HIGHLY indicative of spinal involvment just so you know. all of your symptoms would actually fit, but that one banding feeling would indicate a dermatome involment from a particular spinal nerve being involved somehow. depednding upon what does or does not actually show itself upon that x ray,i would push your doc either way for that really badly needed MRI. it really would show a heck of alot more than any plain x ray would, seriously.

please keep me posted as to what you find out lizzie. i am willing to bet that you DO have some level of either very low c spine or upper thorasic involvment just based upon your symptoms alone. good luck hon, marcia

Yes, I agree with feelbad. I had an x-ray initially and it didn't show anything. I had a T6-7 herniation. I was treated for muscle spasms - which I did have for 6+ months. But, that was only a symptom. I would not wait that long. The pain going around the ribs is called radicular pain. It is classic of a nerve being compressed. If this doesn't go away with in a week or so with rest, ice and anti-inflammatories, I'd really push for an MRI. You don't want that nerve to get used to being so grumpy. Believe me... :)

It's worth trying the rest, ice, meds, and PT though. Do keep a pain journal. It's kind of a hassle, but it's really useful to doctors. Describe what makes pain worse and what relieves it in any way. Even if it never goes away completely, what makes it subside. What can you do that makes the pain horrible? Be specific. This is really helpful information.

Good luck. Thoracic issues are unusual, but there are a few of us floating out here...

Big thanks to chatterbox and feelbad. Good to have someone out there who understands. Unfortunately I don't have a very understanding doctor. I have actually had the pain, more on than off for over a year. I thought it was just my gall bladder but I had it removed and the pain stayed. Around the same period I fell forward onto a pointed banister rail on the front right curve of my right rib cage and had pain ever since. I asked my doctor if my rib cage took such a bad hit on the front going upwards that this might of had an effect on the back of my spine. He said it has nothing to do with it and said I didn't need any xrays. That was over a year ago! Half the battle is having someone to talk to. Thanks lots luv lizzielogan

for god sakes lizzie, for the sake of your ongoing health, not to mention your SANITY,move onto another primary who actually cares about their own patients. it does not sound to me like you will ever get ANYWHERE with this idiot. you just DESERVE a primary doc who will work for you and with you to come up with the best overall treatment plans for any type of problems you may actually have(NEVER forget that this is a person who YOU hired to take care of your health needs,he IS supposed to be working for you, if not, he deserves to be fired).

setting up ANY plan needs testing first in order just to really know what it is that needs to be treated in the first place, ya know what i mean? this doc is not going to help you with this at all,he has already proven that by totally blowing off your symptoms and not bothering to at least check for a real possible rib injury by doing a plain old x ray on you. you just NEED a good caring primary to deal with this. getting hit in the ribs, tho they are in the front, very easily transfers that 'hit' to what it is actually attached to, your spine.

i seriously don't see this doc even beginning to try and get all of your very real needs met for you, just based on what you have stated here. no one deserves to be blown off by their doc. i have actually walked out of certain surgical consult with one a** who really was just that, an A** in the biggest way. i did not need to have to deal with an ego and additude i needed help, asap for my particular conditon.

the very best way to actually find a really great primary is by asking the people you know, who you trust who they see and how well they are treated or their symptoms/problems just taken seriously. i have found really great surgeons this way. i love my primary and would not change him if you paid me. he has simply been there for me thru all of my ongoing medical nightmares like any good primary should be. you just don't need this current doc for anything right now,so lose him and move onto someone much better.they ARE out there lizzie, trust me. finding that really great caring primary doc is worth any hassle you may have to go thru to just get him in charge of your care and your symptoms taken seriously as they should have been by your current doc. now start looking hon, and do not give up, you simply deserve "appropriate' and compassionate care. good luck in the search. just get out from under this idiot asap and move on. please let us know how you are doing hon, marcia
