I started Ritalin SR in the am with a 5 milligram booster at lunch. I found it to have a phenomenal impact on my studies, which is great but I crashed with unwanted side effects such as irritability, rebound, worse than before. I talk with the doctor to ask to try another stimulant or medication........ he replied "there are the same". I have my doubts about this? Anyone have any advice?
Thanks Blair

If you are looking for something to substitute Ritalin you are going to need 100% pure Omega 3 Fatty Acids particularly Salmon Oil not Flaxseed Oil as the benefits are different and also a complete Protein that has all 22 Amino Acids that will give you better concentration, ability to stay focussed and to control stress levels. You might also want to take a B-Complex not isolates and preferably a slow release. Hope this helps.

Blair,
Your doctor is an idiot. Sorry. Your Ritalin response is not at all atypical. I responded same way and doctor at the time said "can't be."
I'm hard on doctors because they should know better. I should keep count of how many post here on this board because their doctor is screwing them up and the patient doesn't know it. Good grief, it's the last thing we need. Might as well see a literal shrink as in witch doctor.
Ok, what to do. Find a good psychiatrist. There many possible solutions to your problem. SR is old techology. It sucks. It's no better than immediate release. Newer extended release products such as Ritalin LA and Concerta effectively deliver the dose over time and could be your solution. Another possibility if money is a problem is to add generic Wellbutrin to the mix.
I simply cannot determine what solution will work for you. I'm not a doctor and there are simply too many variables unique to you.
See a good psychiatrist if at all possible.
Bob

I agree with Bob.
All the ADD stimulant medications are very similar, but very very often it happens that someone does well on one medication and suffers intolerable side effects on another one.

i used to be on ritalin, like you, and had the same effect..plus it made me really irritable. i agree, they are mostly the same. adderall is stronger than ritalin. (i'm on 20mg 2x day) and i think it works more efficiently.
