I was doing some reading and I came across that people with fibro have a lower pain threshold. This really clicked in for me , I now understand why I was in so much pain after my shoulder surgery. I had a rotator cuff repair and part of my collar bone remove. I was in so much pain after the surgery it was unbelievable to me. The morphine did not help. I couldn't understand this because I had six other surgeries and never had this problem. I have has a hysterectomy, hernia, appendix and cesarean sections. None of these compared to the last. And it was only day surgery , I wanted to stay, I didn't want to scare my husband or freak him out, but they sent me home anyways. I was crying all the time. Not like me at all. After I realized this I now have figured this is what started my flare. I have gone down hill since the surgery in November 2007. I was five months into physio and suddenly I was back to square one. Had to quit, I could no longer take it. I was getting very tired back then.
I was told that I need the other shoulder done and I am scared %6%7 to have it done. I never have cried out in pain before this.
Anybody else have a big event to trigger a major long lasting flare? Or just something that you wouldn't think of?

I am sorry you are having a hard time. I have always had a high pain threshold or tolerance. I gave birth 4 times naturally, have my teeth filled without novacaine. I hardly took anything for pain.

However, I was having some syptoms of fibro and didn't know it when I had day female laparascopic surgery. I went into a huge flare and didn't return to work for 2 months. I had to go to physical therapy and I now take Lyrica and Cymbalta which controls most all of the pain.

So to answer your question, I don't believe it's the lower pain threshold that caused it. It probably was the surgery that caused the major flare. I have heard from others that has happened also.

I hope you feel better soon,
Pam
