Do you mean Tramadol aka Ultram? It's a "non narcotic" pain pill. I am prescribed 50mg 4x daily. I have been on it over a year, and it does even less than ibuprofen for pain now. It works really well at first, but one thing you have to remember about it...withdrawl from Ultram is worse than any narcotic. I was feeling better at one point in time, so I didn't take it for a weekend. BIG mistake. I have never any side effects other than some drowsiness at first. No hallucinations or visions that i have been aware of. Around here, doctors prescribe Ultram because they feel it isn't as much or as bad as narcotics.
When it worked, it was good. Just try not to forget to take more than one dose.

I use tramadal and my sister in law too. It works well for us with almost no side effect or "high" feeling. I have been told that because it is a "non narcotic" that there are LESS withdrawals as compared to narcotic medication. Im sure every person may have a different reaction but in my own personal experience I have not had any withdrawals except for the expected pain from being off meds.

When I went through the withdrawl, I found it was actually very common for the withdrawl to be worse than with narcotics, but everyone is different.

The reason Tramadol tends to produce a bad withdrawal response in many folks, is because in addition to the pain killing properites of Tramadol it also has a mild SSRI (anti-depressant) effect....thus, when you stop taking it...it's the withdrawal from the SSRI that makes the process more difficult to overcome.

Hi Dozzy l was given tramadol 6 months ago and took my first dose yesterday... l felt nothing for a good few hours l was waiting for the pain to magically disappear straight away lol a few hours later l was spaced out lol but boy did my body relax!! and l was in a real bad way yesterday :( the secret is not to take it unless you really need too and not for long continous periods if time my hubby takes it for spinal problems and he says it is awful to come off the longest he took it was 3 weeks in one go. I wont be using it unless l really need too now lve tried it and know the effect l wont let myself suffer again the way l have been through fear of trying it. Good luck and take care x

It sounds like what you are taking is Ultracet, which is a combo of Tramadol and Tylenol.

Hi
yes mine is tramadol, when I wrote the post the box was downstairs and I was being lazy so I guessed the spelling. Sounds like it acts differently for people as usual I think I will only take it when Im having a really bad day.
thanks dozzy
