Hi Im new. I have a spot on my lung the size of a quarter. I went in the er with the flu and pneumonia. The doctor said it was a calcified granuloma. Now I have been wheezing and having pain in my chest when I breath. If any one is kinda familar with this please let me know. It really concerns me.

Chronic inflammation (as can be caused by any number of things) is usually jumped on by the body's defenses -- white blood cells et al. If these guys are unable to protect the host from tissue damage, the body tries to wall off and isolate the infected site, forming a granuloma.

Tuberculosis is one particular disease that is pretty famous for causing granulomas in the lung. Other infections can do it too, like the one that caused your pneumonia.

Granulomas can and will often shrink once the inflammatory process is gone, but the walled-off structure might stick around for life.

If it's causing you chest pain, after your hospital discharge, a good idea would be to go back to the doctor.

thanks wrin for your insight. I went back to the doctor yesterday. (this is three months after they found the spot). I went to a new doc. he said he didn't want to monkey around and he is sending me to a pulmonologist. He also did a chest x-ray and blood work and a will do a tb test on monday. he gave me an inhaler which I believe is helping alot with the shortness of breath and wheezing. My chest pain is not as bad either. I have also been running a low grade fever for a while (like 99.1)Do you think that these symptoms could be from my ashma? I am really concerned and do not like having to wait all weekend to know something. Does this sound like I could have lung cancer?

That's a question for your pulmonologist.

Wrin can you get a granuloma from burning your lungs from smoking a lot in one day? I chainsmoked while I was doing a comedy video so much so that my throat hurt like crazy the next day...and ever since I've been sick with some kind of chest infection or bronchtis (you read my story on the other thread)...been through antibiotics and stuff......the symptoms seem a lot better than before....is that a possibility?

Personally, I doubt it, but I'm no expert.

If your doctor's really worried he'll take a chest x-ray and they'll be able to see if there's something funny going on inside.

I'm the worried one, I haven't had the xray yet.....My symptoms have been much better but still it still hasn't gone away....if I deeply exhale or laugh I cough uncontrollably but I don't have a persistant cough during the day or feel sick.....If it doesn't go away soon I'm going back to the doctor....I just want to hear that this happens sometimes....I just pray it's nothing serious/deadly.
