Anyone here thats had a punctured lung when they were young?? Need to talk to someone about it...

My husband has a broken rib which is poking his lung right now. He is leaking air into his tissues--chest, neck, and arm, but breathing well. The doctor says this is fine and will heal on its own.

Hello Gildor...How did he break a rib...Did they do x-rays and if so what did it look like on the x-ray?

I had a collapsed lung when i was in high school. the lung fell and the chest cavity filled up with air. They found out by listening to my breathing and doing an xray. They put a tube in my chest to release the air....

My husband was in a car accident, hit in the driver's side by a large pick-up. He has had several x-rays. The break appeared as a bump near the sternum. At first they were not sure of it, but yesterday's follow-up x-ray was conclusive. He has lots of crepitus in the lung and pain in the right arm and shoulder. The doctor said four to six weeks to heal.

Oh, by the way, he is not young so the whole question may be moot. He is 49.
