I just completed a series of 5 injections of hyalgan in both knees which were in pretty bad shape after 3 operations on my miniscus (both knees), just wondering if anybody else has had these injections and how they are doing. It really has helped me get around better. Just wondering how long does it lasts? I have heard anywhere from 6 months to a year.

I had both Hyalgan and Synvisc and found Hyalgan far superior to Synvisc(but insurance companies like Synvisc as it's only 3 shots and Hyalgan is 5). The knee I had it done on had 6 previous surgeries and I felt so good I went swimming at Virginia Beach. Got picked up by a big wave, shoved down into the sand and went right through my joint surface. But it kept my knee pretty comfortable until it was replaced 6 months later. The Synvisc knee was a mess very quickly.

So see how long it works. Six months to a year is pretty normal. It's replacing thin, acidic fluid with thick Ph appropriate fluid. Can really calm an inflamed knee.

Good luck...........Jenny(14 knee surgeries and now plastic and metal)

Thanks for your reply. It is really working good for me I am able to walk 1 1/2 miles a day 6 days a week. I believe eventually I am going to need knee replacement (both Knees), my brother had both his knees replaced he gets around better than me.
