Christine VR 04-27-2001, 01:46 PM A few months ago I was diagnosed with having pulmonary embolisms. i was wondering if anyone else has had them and how you were doing later down the line Sponsor MartynH 09-14-2003, 06:43 AM As this is all I found on a search for info on pulmonary embolism I wonder if there is a different method to search for previouse chats on this subject. I had my pulmonary embolism November 2002. I just found this board and realise how helpful and reassuring it can be. I have had Otitis Media or Otitis Externa or both this last week and feel a bit uncomfortable with the blocked up ear at the moment. I gave up smoking at last 2 months ago. Cauasation of Pulmonary Embolism likely due to the lost hip joint and degenarating and damged area of hip from a missed septic arthiritis of the hip early 1992. Lots of questions to ask in different area's of problems when I am feeling a little better. Regards Martyn kellie2 09-15-2003, 02:49 AM Hi Christine - I had these back in 1984, in both lungs. Mine were found to be caused by a blood disorder, a protein deficiency. I've been on Coumadin ever since and have had no problems whatsoever, either with clots or with the coumadin. Can I ask what they attributed yours to, and how many you had? warney 09-17-2003, 09:18 AM Hi, I was recently diagnosed with multiple bilateral pulmonary embolisms also. I have been on warfarin for two months now but as I suffer chronic infections from an indwelling catheter, my INR is very unstable. My original diagnosis was 2 months ago and, in the last week, I have had a recurrence due to my INR being so unstable. Is anyone else having probs with INR kellie2 09-19-2003, 02:14 AM I don't understand why a catheter would make your INR unstable, or why it would affect your blood at all. Do you know why you have the multiple clots, or what caused them in the first place? I remember back when I was first diagnosed with my blood disorder, and my doctor insisted that I take only Coumadin. From what I understand, Coumadin is suppose to be better able to keep your readings constant and stable as they should be. And I don't think it's the same thing that you're taking. Can I ask what kind of doctor is treating you? You should be going to a specialist as alot of doctors don't have a clue about any of this. They may be fine for routine checking once you're stable, but for the onset you need to be cared for by someone who knows what he's doing, as what we have can be potentially fatal if not properly managed. melijen18 06-10-2004, 12:24 AM Hello: I am writing from the hospital on my fourth day after being diagnosed with multiple pulmonary embolisms in both lungs. I am 22 year old female, non-smoker, very active, and have had no previous injuries that would cause this to happen to me. My symptoms started with very severe abdominal pain for the last 2 months. At first my Doctor thought it was ulcers. I went and had an endoscopy done, which showed nothing but a pollup on my gallbladder. I also had an ultra-sound which came up normal. Being that a pollup on the gall bladder is not too serious, I was still not convinced that is what was causing my pain. Then about two weeks ago I started to notice slowly that I was having shortness of breath, couldn't push myself as hard as usual.... and after running rountiely one night, I felt as though I was having a horrible side ache..... I woke up the next morning feeling as though a diesel truck had run over my left side and every rib felt broken. I couldn't take a full breath, I was in so much pain. I went to the Doctor again, and my Doctor was stumped. He ordered a lung CT for me that following Friday. I then received a call on the way home from the scan telling me to drive myself to the nearest hospital immediately because i had multiple clots scattered all over my lungs. The hospital instantly put me on Heparin and bed rest. The ONLY possible contributor that anyone can think of for this is birth control. I have been on it for the past 4 years, but no previous symptoms of this. I go to the athletic club every night, I am a health concious eater, don't smoke, drink.... nothing. They have now also put me on Coumadin to ease me off the Heparin. My blood has a very difficult time regulating. I did have a ultra-sound in my legs and abdomen to see if they could find where the clots originated from and they came back normal. I also had an EKG which came back normal. I then had some lung tests which were a little below normal. I write this novel because I am desperate for suggestions, opinions, similar experiences, advice. I am nervous, scared, and most of all, grateful that I am alive. Thank you, Mel |
