Hello my Mom was diagnosed with kidney disease 7 months ago via a yearly blood test. Her levels were high so they did an ultrasound she has only 30% kidney function and only one kidney working. On her good kidney they found a few cysts but 1 that was considered a complex cyst. It is very small and has no tell tale signs that it could be cancer they had decided to just monitor it at this point. Last week she went in for an ultrasound to check on it and it was discovered that she has a large tumor on her caduet lobe of her liver. It is golf ball sized they tell her. Next week she is going for a CT scan with dye ( they were trying to avoid this as her kidney function is low) but they told her at this point they had to do this they said they are concerned and at this point they just need to investigate it. We have no family history of any cancer other then ovarian and uteran and she is otherwise very healthy and has never had any pain. She is 69. Does anyone have any stories of tumors in the cadut lobe or liver in general? I need good, bad and ugly. All her bloodowrk in reagrds to the liver has never come back anything but normal. She is so scared and I just would love to know more about what we may be facing. Thanks so much in advance for any information!

Hello mssumr,
Is your mom on any kind of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) ? This can sometimes cause liver tumours (a rare side effect but a side effect nevertheless). If she is taking hormone replacement, she should get off it. It may be advisable to go and see a liver specialist as this type of thing is best looked at by a liver specialist.
The liver is an incredible organ and it can be resected and its owner live a completely normal life. Usually with this type of procedure, you are put on drugs to get the liver to grow back (or at least as much of it as possible).
The essential at the moment is to biopsy the tumour to see what you are dealing with. It may be a non cancerous tumour so tell your mom to try not to worry until she has all of the information in front of her (as tough as this is).
Sorry I could not be of more help. I just thought I would mention that HRT and oral contraceptives can sometimes cause a benign type of liver tumour. A lot of the time these regress when the hormone therapy is stopped but sometimes they persist.
All the best for your mom.

Thanks so much for the reply. No my mom is not on any sort of hormone she use to be but it's been close to 10 years since she went off hormones. I had read about that side effect wish it could be that simple. I really appreciate the inforamtion and reply!

Hi again,
Sorry I could not be of more assistance but perhaps someone else with more experience will read this post and chime in. Once you know what kind of liver tumour your mom has, you will be in a better position as to treatment, if treatment is necessary (sometimes these things are watched).
Hang in there and be strong for your mom. I am sure that she is really happy to have someone like you who cares for her at this crucial time in her life.
All the best to you and your mom.

I have a kidney tumor also have a large liver Hemagioma on the liver like a blood cloth (tumor) has been there now for 5 years and the doctors leave it alone I nearly lost my life when they did a biopsy of it 3 years ago as it was full of blood and the blood run in to my heart and lungs so they will never touch it again
