My father has been diagnosed with esophageal cancer this year. i understand that its a very bad kind to have he has stage 4-5 but if hes taking chemo and radiation to shrink it... why cant they remove it?

Depending on how spread the cancer is, it may be that it is too advanced for the common surgical options (esophagectomy, esophagectomy), and he may be in a palliative care type situation. Meaning that the doctors are attempting to make it smaller but since its too far along they wont try to remove it. You could ask your dads doctor why not, they probably could give you a better reason.
