Hi
My family doctor not my liver doctor prescribed lactulose for me to help lower the ammonia levels that no one can seem to lower. I have takern Xifaxan for almost a year now and it has helped but not enough. I have sjogrens, fibromyalgia and cirrhosis caused by the sjogrens. I rarely drank and no drug use.

First few days were great, I was feeling alert, fatigue was fading and my memory was improving. I knew diarrhea would be a side effect. For a few days, then I was constipated. I broke out in a slight rash, began a cough that progressed into vomiting. Now I have terrible hemorrhoids, maybe 5 or so its unbelievable. My doctor is on vacation and I have a bottom that's on fire. Preparation H is not helping much. I quit taking the lactulose a day ago. I will take any advice, this is a new experience and hell.
Thanks in advance.
