Hello Everyone! I'm at a bit of a low point and I need some encouragement.
Last Fall, I had a persistant rash on my face. I saw a dermatolgist, who perscribed some cream for it and sent me home. The cream didn't work and the rash kept getting worse. In november I broke out in a butterfly rash on my face. A friend with Lupus saw it and told me to get to the doctor ASAP. I saw the dermatologist again. He told me I had rosacea(sp), I pushed for an ANA test (which he didn't want to do). The Rosacea test came back negative (I knew it would) but the ANA test and 1 other test that he did came back undetermined. He did a second test (I'm not sure what any of the other tests done from now on in my story were-they didn't tell me) and it came back negative so he said I didn't have Lupus. I had other symptoms such as joint pain etc so I wasn't convinced. I went to a Rhumatologist (I wasn't able to get in until Feb), he checked me over and said that the other symptoms I was experiencing could be from other things such as my age (I was 17 at the time). He did some tests to rule out systemic Lupus (a urine test to check the kidneys or something), but he was a little stumped on my skin. The butterfly rash had basically gone, but I still had patches that would come out on my face. But now my scalp was breaking out in a rash, but he said it was different from the one on my face. He suspected Lupus but said since the hair wasn't broken it probably wasn't. He said they were different from eachother and sent me to another dermatologist and told him to do a scraping.
The new Derm wouldn't do a scraping because he said they only do those if it's suspected to be a fungus and he didn't think it was. It didn't help that I wasn't flared up that day so there wasn't much to see. He gave me some cream to fix my "problem" (which he basically made up the symptoms for because he wouldn't listen to me when I explained how things usually felt).
Because of the Derm's "diagnosis" (he gave no name because he doesn't know what it is that I have) the Rhumatologist ruled I don't have Lupus and here I sit. The rash on my face has gone completely. I've figured out that it was an allergy to wheat, but now here's my problem. My scalp has continued to get worse. My hair is falling out at an alarming rate wherever there is a patch (dry, flakey, sometimes weeping skin that itches and is red), it's very sensitive to heat and it gets worse when I'm stressed. Does this sound like a form of Discoid Lupus? Should I be pushing the doctors some more to test for Lupus or does this sound more like something else (and if so, does anyone know what?). Please help! If you can, email me at: mellyweir@yahoo.com

The very first thing I would do is change rheumatologists. The one you have now doesn't seem to be very dependable or accurate. I would definitely want to know...one way or another, if I had Lupus. It is a terrible thing, but with a good doctor and the right medicine, you will be fine.

Go to another doctor and don't tell him what you "think" you have; let him find out for you.
