Hiya, I'm new to this site but just found it by chance. I am actually a Lupus sufferer and have been now for about 20 years. I have it extemely mild so I consider myself very lucky.
My reason for writing this email is to ask everyone how they feel about the way we make people aware of Lupus in this country?
In New York or any other town in USA you only have to stop someone on the street and ask them what Lupus is and they all know, they have all heard of it. Yet, in Britain today, how many people have said to you "Lupus, I've never heard of it" when you told them what you were ill with.
I just think we could be doing so much more in this country and you know in the long run it would benefit all sufferers of this awful disease.
All your views would be very welcome, so come on, tell me what you think!!!!!

Keep well all and I will speak to you all soon. Remember, that knowledge is power and the more you know about Lupus the easier it is to fight it.

Alirob:

Not many people in my area of the country have ever heard of Lupus. We talk about cancer, Pakinson's Disease, Alzheimers, etc., but no one wants to talk about Lupus.

I was diagnosed with Lupus about 6 years ago and I have met only one other person who has Lupus. We just don't talk about it and I can't understand why.

Of course, I don't walk up to someone and say, "Hey, did you know I have Lupus?"

Good luck.
