I just found this site while looking for answers on lupus. My daughter is suspected of having lupus, and is undergoing tests for it. Her ANA test was positive. She has joint and muscle pain (mostly muscle I think) all through her body, along with stiffness. She received a steriod injection which seems to have helped. My question is this. She is very sensitive to cold. If she goes into an airconditioned room, or car, her symptoms get much worse. Can anyone relate to this?

She is also being tested for other auto immune diseases. The rheumatologist has ruled nothing out.
any info or ideas would be greatly appreciated. BTW she is 33 yrs old.

Thank you,

Hello Roberta. I haven't posted here much but my 15 year old daughter was told she is developing lupus. Joint pain, stiffness, and extreme fatigue. She tested positive Ana at 1:2560 and they are still ruling out every other AI they could think of. As with her, I too have been going through the same process. As for your question, my daughter is always very cold. She hates air conditioning. She was dx with raynauds. Do her hands and feet change colors with cold? Good luck.
God bless

Both you ladies speak of your daughters having a tnedency to be cold or have cold hands and feet. This in itself is not a symptom of Lupus. I, on the other hand, can't stand the heat. I have to be under air-conditioning or I am sick.

The fact that they stay cold is not a symptom of Lupus. They may also have Lupus, but the cold hands and feet does not mean that they have Lupus. All those tests you said they took should have told whether or not they had Lupus. I didn't like the diagnosis, but I was so relieved when they took all those test and I finally knew what was wrong and could start treatment. I don'tlike taking medicine, but I don't like sleepless nights, aching bones and stress.

Take care of those daughters and find a good rheumatologist. I have an excellent one. He seems to really care about his patients and that is rare.

I seem to have problems with both heat and cold. The cold affects my hands and feet mostly, but this is a symptom of Raynauds, which is another autoimmune disease I have. Grocery stores & MN winters are the worst! Also, I have a major problem with heat..... I break out into dripping sweats from heat and anxiety. I don't know if this is caused by the Lupus or by some of the medication I am on. I also try to avoid a lot of sun because they say it can cause a flare in symptoms. Hope this info helps, Ann
