Because the intial symptoms of HPV can be minor and often be missed and the virus can go dormant it can be years before it is picked up. So what you ex is saying is certainly possible however, unless you were the only person she ever had any intimate contact with, and I don't mean intercourse, there is really no way to tell from whom a person contracts HPV.
