I have had herpes for probably 15 years but had always associated the OB symptoms with a yeast infection. They were very infrequent. I happened to have a Dr appt on a day when I had a "yeast infection" and asked to get an official diagnosis. Surprise, it was really herpes. This was 1/08. I have had a constant OB ever since. I have been back to the Dr several times and have taken anti-virus meds but they haven't helped in the least. The OB's cycle from mild "papercuts" to severe almost seems raw places. When it's severe it hurts terribly and itches like crazy. I've been married for 11 years and never infected my husband. I also have 2 children 9 & 7. I definitely think that some of this is psychological. To live with it for so many years not knowing and not having any major problems to finding out and it never going away.

I would really like to hear from a female that has had or is having a similar experience with the never ending outbreak. I would really like to hear from someone that eventually overcame a long lasting OB just to help me see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Hi, lets see where to begin... I have had this for 10years, I know exactly how you feel, in the beginning I never thought I would feel normal again, The Emotional part is the worst and believe it or not I strongly believe Stress is a Major factor in OB's, the more stressed I get , the longer they last, I have had one although mild for about a month now and I know it is stress, but the more I worry the more I stress and so forth, it is a never ending cycle. I hate having it, it makes me nuts, but I own it, its mine, I have Valtrex but it gives me headaches so I tend to stay away from it, but then again I am not sexually active. trust me there has been months when I have had no OB's and it is like I never had it, So yes there is light at the end of the tunnel... I know it so hard, Not to worry, not to think about feeling bad, when you feel like Crap and you hurt and nothing helps, but YOU have to try, even though you don't realize you are stressed your body does and its feeding the fire... I wish there was something more I could say to make it better.. Understanding you helps I hope..
Feel better soon!

Hi
you are not the only one. I was told 20 years ago that I had it just by telling my Dr my symtoms, No test at all. only got one sore in the same place maybe once every six months. And real bad pain in my right leg. No itching nothing else! Went to another Dr I had blood test done that came back Neg, I had another Dr Tell me to get it though my head that I dont have it. That it was streep. Then another that did test that said I did, Now for the past few months things are out of control. Itching all the time, but if I put a hot wash cloth on it the itching stops with in a few mins, pain in my right leg for over two months now, never ending! and the same sore in the same place and as soon as it went away with in a couple days it was there again. I also get shooting pain, from my leg to the area where the sore forms. I'm starting to think that this may be something else. I just have so may different symtoms going on. I would like to know also if symtoms are always there 24-7

Why? Your genital herpes symptoms sound exactly like mine. Many people experience flare-ups after years of mostly no symptoms. It's not that uncommon for a blood test to come back a false negative(I think it's about 20%). I think that your first doctor was most likely correct. It's kind of like someone having cold sores...regardless of if you have a negative test result...you still have herpes.

If the shooting pain persists I would see a doctor to make sure you don't have something in addition to herpes.

Here is something else to think about...people often assume because they have genital herpes, they don't have to worry about getting herpes but that's not entirely true...how can that be she asks? Well maybe you first had HSV1 in your genital area but didn't think you had to worry about catching herpes from anyone but let's say you have sex with someone that has GH hsv2...you could then catch hsv2...or vice versa of course. It is possible that you could have caught just recently the strain of herpes that you did not have before?

Do not assume that because your husband doesn't have sores that he does not have herpes. You don't have to ever show visible signs of herpes to be infected...actually this is the normal. Perhaps he may have had a tiny itch or red spot that came and went before he ever even noticed it. I caught it from my husband that never paid any attention to his symptoms...never once associated a tiny red spot to herpes! But voila...there it is! Oh lucky me!:dizzy:

For the outbreaks, you may need to try taking the lysine, oil of oregano, olive leaf extract and my most recent find is aloe vera juice! The aloe vera juice has totally stopped my husband's OBs!

Thanks for your reply
That one Dr I saw said it was both 1 and 2.
I'm going to go back to another Dr and find out what is going on with the pain in my leg. I hope it's something else, Because I just can't live with this kind of pain. I can except and deal with the other symptoms. Thanks again

I've had herpes for almost 1 year and the OBS have been constant. I don't know how to deal with it and i think the stress of it must be having some effect. I have no idea how i got it or when i got it but its now taken over my life.

I used to be in a routine, same job, same stress same everything, and then i took off to travel the world. 7 months in i had my first outbreak. It was horrendous, flu symptoms, blisters on my back, vaginal blisters and a lot worse which i won't go in to! the doctor took loads of tests and they came back negative for herpes. He diagnosed chickpox and said the stress of travelling and the upset of my routine had probably bought the virus out! It didn't clear - i saw another doctor and he diagnosed herpes. Another doctor diagnosed shingles. I researched the symptoms on the internet and concluded herpes. I don't know what else it can be. I have constant itching & pain down below and blisters which occur all over my body - inc my face which is so embarrassing because people ask what it is . One of my doctors told me to relax and try to deal with my stress because that what causing it. I changed my diet, did more exercise and even changed my job but i can't help feel stressed still and its because of the herpes!! Its having an effect on my relationship because we can hardly ever have sex - its too painful, and this is also causing stress.

I don't know what to do, I just want to find something that can help with the symptoms - any suggestions?

Sorry, i know this is no help to anyone, but i'm so relieved to find other people like me and i just wonder if anyone has found any miracle cure yet!! HELP!!

Thanks :-)

How did the doctor diagnose it as herpes? Was it a culture? or if a blood test I would suggest you finding out which type and the numeric values just so that you are not trying to treat something that you may not have.

If you do have it, have you tried Valtrex or any other medications? For the itching some people take benedryl. ;)

HI,
I don't personally have herpes but I have dealt with it for 18 years. My son was diagnosed with herpetic kirititis at age of 6 months. He had ob's on his face ,ear and inside his eye every single week until he reached 5 or 6 yrs old .Then the out breaks were every month. The poor kid spent an entire summer in bed with the lights out because the eye was so bad. He has 20 / 400 vision in that eye now The one treatment plan that actually got it all under control and stopped the relentless ob was acyclovir liquid (valtrex is just a name brand and is expensive) AND anti- anxiety meds. Yes herpes feeds off of your emotions because when u stress your immune system weakens and the virus attacks. Herpes lives in the nerves in the body(where ever the ob is located) and with regular anti viral therapy once a ob starts the meds make it retreat back inside the nerve. Which is why herpes is not curable.the nerves would have to be killed to eliminate it completely . Anyway taking a low dosage of antiviral daily is good to keep it suppressed. but consider this also. Once the ob are under control for a long period of time. a year or so take a short break from the therapy just to give your body a break from the meds cause there is no real other alternative prescription to fall back on. and you want it to work when you really need it.
Also if you have had a ob for such a long period of time consider asking your doctor for a referral to a infectious desiese specialist. because they can admit u into the hospital for a quick iv of the anti viral medication which will
knock the virus back into its place. and end the cycle. my son used to be admitted at least 3 times a year to control the herpes inside his eye. it sounds extream but really its simple. and you will be amazed how much better u will feel and how quick the ob will disappear once given the iv drug is given then u can start the meds for suppression starting a little high on the milligrams and over a period of weeks tapering the dosage down to really low.
My son is now 18 and his ob are down to 3 times a year.now. if that.
hope this makes sense and helps ,I'm no doctor but a mom who has seen it all with this problem. if there is something that dosent make sense just ask sometimes I get ahead of my self when typing. take care (the anti anxiety is what made the diffrence.
