Ok so here is the long and short of it.
My Dr was on vacation, I cam down with some terrible back pain.I called 3 days in a row and could not see anyone, all booked up.
I ended up going to a "walk in clinic". This is in a dr's office, he has both walk in and patients.I needed some TEMPORARY relief until the next week.He said it was not only sciatica but something about my disk. I have had this before and usually it is piridormis syndrome, not true sciatica. He RX'ed 100 Tylenol 2's, told me to get an x ray and come back.
I said "I think I can see my family Dr next week, so I can get an xray then IF needed", he then said "NO you HAVE to get an xray so we can see what we can do with you next." This did not sit right with me.I don't need an xray, if anything maybe a little pain relief, certainly NOT 100 tylenol 2's! i have my own dr thanks.
I went home and decided to try ONE more time to get in touch with MY MD. He was actually available.
I went in that afternoon with the script, the RX and the appt card for next week.He said it was all very shady. He said that it was OK that I went and sorry he was unavailable. He tore up the RX from the clinic Dr at MY request, gave me an RX for 50 tylenol 2's and told me never to go back there.
I now have to cancel that appt with the clinic Dr.This doctor is KNOWN to be very mean and spiteful.I did not fill the RX he gave me.I am afraid since he gave me such a large RX I would be seeing him for a while.
I am so scared I will get into BIG trouble when I cancel my appt, like he will think I only came to get drugs (basically I came to get temporary relief).
What is he like calls the cops or something on me???? Do I tell him that my family Dr saw me, I didn't fill the RX? what do I do???

I was afraid when I saw your title....Thought it was a bad situation....This is an easy one actually.....
You are under no obligation to fill any script. And one can't get in trouble until it's filled anyway. I get all sorts of scripts from Docs that I'm not comfortable taking the med (for whatever reason), and I simply throw them away. If it's a controlled script, I give it to my PM Doc. Being that you gave it to your doc to have him destroy it, was a very good move....Probably earned you good brownie pts with your Doc.
All you have to do is cancel the appt with the receptionist and that's it. Don't give any reason. Or if they ask, just tell them your regular Doc is going to treat you. If they try to say anything, just tell them your turned the script over to your Doc who destroyed it and you feel more comfortable seeing your new Doc. You under no obligation to go back to see him, or any Doc. I'd be very surprised if anything comes of it. Chances are the clinic is so busy, the Doc will never know you canceled and didn't come back. Worst case scenario, if they try to start something, tell your regular Doc and let him handle it, but I'd incredibly surprised if it arrises to that.
The only way the canceled appt would be an issue is if you canceled the xray and then went back for meds....But since you're not going back, it's a non issue.
Best of luck to you, and hope your back feels better.
Regards,
Ex

I am so sorry I didn't read Rate MD's before I went to this guy.he is very vengeful. He will see you for 1 appt PER issue. He even had someone go to him for each test result, that is guidelines for Ontario health insurance (In canada). Each test result, if you cancel an appt, they bill you anyway saying you never cancelled. He has been reported 3 times for patient harrassment and got off every time. This is not your average run of the mill Dr, he is money hungry and that is why he wanted me to come back so many times.
I am really scared, with being charged for double doctoring something that came up when I searched for my situation, OR that he will call my Dr and say I asked for the drugs OR something.
I can see this turning out bad, the guy is nuts

I totally agree with Ex. There is nothing you have done to get into trouble. You didn't fill the scrip, you turned it in to your doctor and he destroyed it. He can vouch for you. You did nothing wrong, so please do not worry so much.
Actual doctor shopping is when you see multiple doctors to get multiple scrips for meds and then actually fill all those scrips from each doctor.
There is no law that says a person can't see more than one doctor- again the trouble starts when you get multiple scrips from multiple doctors.
Take care and don't worry- there's no trouble for you.

Send a notice of appointment cancellation via a trackable service -FedEx or your postal with tracking receipt. Problem all gone.

Just be done with it and move on. He didn't commit a crime and he tried to help you. You didn't fill the script so there is no reason for you to feel like your going to get into some kind of big trouble. I think your over reacting a bit. Also don't believe everything you read online, its not always true. So please just don't worry about it and don't see him again. Leave a message after hours to cancel your apt with the answering service or on there voice mail, you can even say in the message that you never filled the script and your Dr ripped it up. No big deal, really and the Dr was just trying to help you I don't see anything strange at all with what he did by asking you to come back. this isn't unreasonable at all and just because he asked you to get a Simple X-RAY is also not abnormal frightening, scary or illegal. Its actually pretty standard and normal protocol. Please relax, chill out and don't worry about this anymore, its not a big deal, trust me you didn't fill the script. you went in for relief, you got a RX for something to relieve your pain so in my eyes the DR sounds like he actually cared and was trying to help you. Plenty of DR'S wouldn't have given you anything but Anti inflamatories so he actually was compassionate to give you 100 tylenol # 2's. Also Dr shopping is when one sees multiple Dr's and gets prescriptions from several Dr's for controlled substances and actually fills them and takes the pills, and than goes to another DR for more meds . you certainly didn't DR Shop because you didn't fill the RX so nothing to worry about now.
Good luck and I hope you can come to peace with this Dr. he didn't do anything wrong so I hope your not going to report him or bad mouth him.

Of course I am not going to report him.I do think it is a little irresponsible to be RX'ing these types of drugs at a walk in clinic.I know the majority around here will not RX narcotics and with good reason. In canada there is no money exchanged when we go to Drs, there was a HUGE problem here with people going to clinics to RX painkillers.
I think the clinic is very useful for short term use, most ppl who use them do have reg doctors, so yes it is very shady that a Dr would bill for every single test result, refuse to discuss 2 things in one visit and charge patients for missed visits that are cancelled. And try to convince someone to come back time and time again when they have a family dr.
Anywhoo I shall follow your advice.

Maybe I should have explained myself and an intro would have helped as well.
I am not a stranger to pain,I had the worst kind, cancer pain.I am a 33 year old breast cancer survivor, 2 surgeries in 6 weeks, radiation with a lot of nerve pain and residual damage.I am not at all unsympathetic to the plight of those who have chronic pain.As a matter of fact I came here the 1st couple of times looking for solutions to my chronic pain problem.
I wanted to say thanks to everyone who replied to my dilemma no matter how trivial it may seem.I can learn a lot here :)
