I am a 42 Y/O woman, been diagnosed with mircoscopic hematuria. I had a CT w/contrast and an ultrasound done. Ct showed a cyst on my right kidney, Ultrasound showed a complex cyst on the kidney. I am a pro-active kind of person and have been doing some information gathering on my own. I am currently seeing a Urologist. My question is, since it has been confirmed that I have a complex cyst on my kidney, should I continue to see the Urologist or do I need to go to a Nephrologist. If this turns out to be cancer, should I seek treatment from an Oncologist? My urologist is not a Urological Oncologist. Your help would be greatly appreciated. I want to make sure I am going to the correct Dr.

First of all, what does your urologist have to say about the cyst? Kidney cysts are not at all uncommon and many of them are not cancerous. I believe there is a way they can tell through scans whether or not they either are cancerous or have the potential to be cancerous. Before you see a urologogical oncologist, you probably should be able to determine what these are. Your urologist may think there's no need for further follow-up at present; if so, ask him to explain why. It may be that you just need to be scanned periodically to make sure there's no change.

Update: Urologist says he doesn't think this is a cyst of the kidney now. He says he thinks its Lymphoma. Following up with my GP on Thursday so we can "go over" everything. The nurse called and said the doctor wants to see me so we can talk about whats going on....that can't be good.
