Hi, I am a 54 yr old male 5'8" 155 lbs. In Dec 08 I started getting a very tired feeling in my right leg after walking 5 minutes or climbing 1 flight of stairs. I went to the Doc in Feb 09(a teaching clinic) and all he said was quit smoking (1 pack a day) and exercise. Sound advice, hard to do but has damage been done . He did not check my BP. 1 month later I went back and saw a different doc. She put me on 24 hr BP monitor. and ordered a vascular blood flow check. While on the monitor I checked my BP by walking 1 flight of stairs four times 2 minutes before it went off. My BP went to 184/117,pulse 110 I think. My leg was dead tired but OK after 5 Minutes. The next check was 154/99.
I now have an appointment with a surgeon in Nov. but nobody has told me what the problem is. I have a follow up with the doc the end of May but I would like to know as much as possible before hand.
Any help on this would be awesome.
Thanks
KenP :)

you should definitely start exercising

Could be an early sign of Peripheral artery disease, poor circulation and blockage of blood in the leg arteries can produce a tired aching feeling, your Doctor can determine this with further tests.

That and others, I'm starting to wonder if that could be one of the causes of my blood pressure problems.

Hi and Thank You for getting back to me. I consider myself to be in fairly good shape. I worked in the overhead door business my whole adult life climbing ladders while carrying a fairly good weight. The last 2 years I have been in sales for door products. I can understand exercising and quiting smoking, I will be giving it my best shot. I guess I am very concerned as my Dad passed away at 39 from an brain anyurism, my nephew had one and survived when he was 21. The male side of the family as I am told is predisposed to this type of thing. I have had my MRI 10 years ago for a safety check as did all the family members. All OK. I don't want to obsess about it but it does concern me and it is a long way to Nov and I don't want to do any thing dumb like over exercise.
Any links to check ?
Thanks Again
KenP

If every thing else is ruled out, is it possible it might be neurological? An MRI from 10 years ago mean nothing, a lot can change in that time frame.

Hi Flutterbye77, Thank You for responding. The mention of the MRI was given as history and I hope it does not become related. I have been doing some research and it kind of sounds like I have Peripheral Artery Disease or PAD. All the symptoms match so now I have a long wait until I find out for sure. :dizzy:
After i got my vascular test flow done the techs who did it commented to me 4 times "Your so Young" This has spooked me and I wish they didn't say that cause it's not their job to diagnose...just test. <removed>

Thanks Again :)

My apologies :-)
Has anyone had any experience with "PAD", "Intermitant Claudication" or "Claudication".
