(((Llama)))

I'm sorry you had a rough night. Been there, done that. As you know, I haven't slept for 4 days due to my mixed episode and health issues.

My pdoc just increased my Klonopin from 2-3x/day to 3-4x/day which I am supposed to take in addition to my 300mg PRN of Trazodone to reduce my mania and help me sleep.

Have you thought about asking your pdoc for a med like Trazodone, Klonopin, Seroquel, Neurontin, Remeron, Ambien, Lunesta or Sonata for sleep?

Thanks dreams! Those are good suggestions of meds. I do take ativan at night to help me sleep. I still can take the trazodone if I need to, but I'm becoming used to it so I don't want to. Also, since I'm sleeping so much when I finally fall asleep, my pdoc doesn't want me taking it. I just need something that will help me fall asleep and then wear off by the time it's time to get up in the morning. No wonder why I sleep til at least noon, if I'm up until 3am! My parents are worried because I sleep in so late.

Why don't you ask your pdoc about one of the meds I mentioned? I used to take Ambien and it never caused me to feel groggy in the morning. I took 12.5mg and woke up feeling rested after sleeping for a full 8 hours.

Try taking Klonipin...It wears off in 6 hours. It will calm you down and you won't be so wired or thinking yourself silly about things. Just a suggestion cause I been there.

Actually, the half-life of Klonopin is 8-12 hours.

Llama,

I wanted to let you know that last night I took 2 Klonopin at 9pm and my 300mg PRN dose of Trazodone at 10pm. It worked like a charm because by the time I took my Trazodone, I was calm and relaxed enough to fall asleep. You may want to give that a try if you're interested in taking Klonopin in addition to another sleep med. Good luck! I know what it's like not to sleep. I haven't slept in 4 days due to my mixed episode. Last night was the first time I slept for 8 hours. Tonight I'll be crossing my fingers that the same is true. My pdoc assured me that the Klonopin will help calm me down enough to sleep in addition to the Trazodone, so we'll see if it works again for the second night in a row. In any case, I'll let you know tomorrow. (((Llama)))

You're welcome!

I'll let you know how the Klonopin/Trazodone combo works out tomorrow.

In the meantime, good luck at your pdoc appointment. When do you see him next? Hopefully soon!

By the way, it's just after midnight here, but I haven't eaten all day (due to my hypomania) and am now starting to get hungry, so I'm going to throw a frozen pizza in the oven and then call it a night. Talk to you again tomorrow Llama! I'll be crossing my fingers that you're able to get some sleep tonight. Hugs!

llama,

also know how you feel! lack of good sleep makes everything worse. i started on seroquel a couple of weeks ago and even though sometimes i boost it with klonopin or xanax it does give me a night's sleep without feeling groggy in the morning. you could discuss all these options with your pdoc if he/she's open to you contributing to your med combo.

i hope you get a decent night's sleep soon. my pdoc suggests taking a sleep aid for five nights, stopping for five nights and then taking again for five nights to get back into proper sleep rhythm, then take as needed after that.

Thanks for the post iw. I know, isn't seroquel the best for sleep? I'm not sure how keen my pdoc will be about adding any meds to my regimine. We'll see I guess.

Oh and guess what? I can't sleep after 3mg of ativan and 300mg of trazodone. Once I'm asleep I can usually sleep at least 10 hours, but it's the falling asleep that gets to me. And I have to be up by 6am because I'm running in a 5k race. We'll see how that goes. Ugh

I hope everyone else is getting some good rest!

Llama,

My pdoc has mw taking klonopin at night also, 2 at night, but since it can take a while for them to kick in, he suggested taking one at diner time and then the second auoud 9ish. I usually take my Trazadone around 10 and pretty soon after that everything starts to turn very sleepy. Maybe you should try some medication timing adjustment.

llama, as kat said maybe it is a matter of timing of meds. i take a klonopin at around 8pm and then 150 seroquel at about 9/10. 9 if i have to up earlier and 10 gets me asleep around 11.30 and am usually up by 7am. hope the marathon goes well for you. rather you than me. you are great to have such motivation!

Well the 5k went ok. My time was not as good as it has been in the past, however. I really almost didn't get up!

Well guess what? I've gotten my special time of the month now and have been doing nothing BUT sleeping! I just can't win. I also feel slightly down and haven't showered since friday. Maybe that's what I'll go do now.

Llama,

I'm sorry things are continuing to be rough for you. When it rains, it pours, doesn't it?

Taking a shower sounds like a good idea. I'm sure it will help you feel better. If you don't have the energy to shower, try washing up in the sink. That's what I do whenever I'm too lethargic and depressed to shower. You might also want to try taking a nice warm bath. When I'm motivated to do that, it always helps improve my mood.

Thanks iw! :)

Guess what guys? I slept about 11 hours (I know, I know still too much) but I woke up around noon (early for me) and felt refreshed. I hope this continues! Sometimes my special time of the month screws with me so bad. Ugh

Awesome!

I'll be crossing my fingers that this is a sign of things to come and that your sleep patterns return to normal.

Hi, IW,

Hey, thanks for asking. I am doing all right, hypomanic but trying to be mindful of it and not let myself run myself into the ground again.

And how are you today?

hi seaturtle,

up and down, still no sh though. am into week 4! pretty low at the moment though, thoughts flying all over the place. was my birthday yesterday and my family all call each other on birthdays so it was kind of draining to have to talk to them all in upbeat mode! (twelve of them!) glad to hear you're doing ok and keeping on top of things. have to go and do more recordings for radio shows (thought they were done but last lot weren't recorded for some reason so we have to repeat them) so a bit anxious about that as usual.

take care.
