My sister is 29, I believe she is in the advanced stages of Lupus. She has been in the hospital for over 40 days now. She has suffered from complete kidney failure, pneumonia, unknown internal bleeding, rash on face, swelling of the face, sores in mouth and lips, and loss of hair. She was diagnosed with lupus over 10 years ago. She is African American. She is in the county hospital so we really don't know if she is getting the best of care. The doctors are not really telling us anything as far as getting better or worse. My question is has anyone gotten better when they are in this stage of Lupus. Has anyone known anyone to die from this? I thought this was a disease that could be controlled.

In answer to your question, I personally know someone who has passed away from lupus. In your sister's case, I believe that as long as there is life, there is hope. Do not give up. Hope your sister gets the answers she needs and gets some relief.

Yes, people do die of this but much can be done now that
wasn't possible in years past. If I were you I would get on the net
and start finding out the lastest treatments even experimental.
Most of the time you can get to talk with researchers or specialists
at teaching hospitals. Don't be afraid to get second opinions
either. If money is a factor, lots of times in a case that sounds as bad as your sister and as young as she is doctors can be reasoned
with especially teaching hospitals to give a price break. Don't
give up on her and don't let the Dr's give you the run around
insist that they explain to you what is going on. Bring in someone else if you have to . My prayers are with you.
