So the past 8 months have been insane. Without going into potentially personally identifying detail, I spent Sept-Dec attending grad school full time, working part time and dilligently job hunting in an unfavorable market. I then spent Jan-Apr finishing grad school while working full time at a mentally demanding new job with a truly awful commute.
Not a week went by when I didn't wonder if I would wind up crashing and burning instead of accomplishing it all. There were hiccups, but I managed.
[Did I mention FINISHING grad school? :D Yes, I am officially done, all i's dotted and t's crossed, just waiting for the pretty diploma to get printed.]
So now, no studies, work responsibilites have decreased, and I've moved about 80% closer to work.
My brain managed to juggle six balls for months on end. Now, given two, it resembles that of a butterfly. "Nothing I need to be doing right now, nothing at all... Oh, wait..."
In the space of a week, I locked my keys in my office twice and simply came to work without them once. I had to run home this afternoon to pick up something important I forgot.
Need more stress! I suppose I could go back on Adderall, but it wouldn't go well with my current work schedule, unless I wanted to start sleeping say 4am-noon and give up out-of-work interaction with the rest of the human race.
I'm not sure if this is a rant, a cheer, or a humor post. Take it as you will.

Congrats Jane on finishing grad school. I never doubted you would. Nice to have that sense of accomplishment I'll bet.
Losing four balls to juggle is a problem for us. You got to replace them.
Our brains just aren't interested until the bullets start flying. Then we are in our glory. Can't you go start a war or something? :D

Jane -- congratulations!!! Whew!!! :)
On the other hand, as you say, when the pressure's off, the brain explodes. :(
I grew up with the adage: "Work expands to fill the time available." I would amend that to read: "For ADDers, nothing gets done if there's too much time available to think, because we'd rather be messing around with other things rather than attending to what ought to be done right this moment, uh what am I doing here at the farmer's market when the list of really important veggies is laying on my counter at home and now I'm home and I'm answering the phone from a friend who's at the restaurant waiting for me to show up but I am not at the restaurant because I neglected to look at my calendar today and so on and so on and so on." Or something like that.
Sigh. Outside structure. We need it. Also stress. It helps us focus.
Congratulations again!

Absolutely, positively the truest ADHD adage ever written about ME.
Can I change my handle to "Drain Bead"?
How I wish for a popcorn bucket icon right now. That would rule.
No popcore in [More] window. But found this ...
:blob_fire - this puppy is called blob_fire. Hmn, remove the L and that could be another handle possibility. Or we can leave as is if I put on any more weight.
To stay in thread: Double, triple, [exp128] congrats, Jane.

I just knew this concept would make total sense to you guys.
Today, I needed to write a certain file to use at work. Except my work computer doesn't have the right software to create this file efficiently. I could use MS Word, but I could also hammer in nails with a shoe. Wouldn't if I had a hammer, though. So, I made it on my home computer (took about 20 minutes I think), then headed in early so I could finally sign up for a membership at the gym next door to work and exercise. I triple-checked to make sure I had emailed myself the file.
Get to work, and...
It's the source file, not the PDF. Utterly useless.
Well, at least it was early enough to go back for it.
I think I really will have to go back on the meds, maybe starting Monday. At least until I can get a little real vacation instead of evil semi-vacation.

congrats, jane! :)
but actually, i have absolutely no idea what it's like to not have enough stress (at this very moment, i am watching my 9 month old figure out how to get out of her baby corral - you know those connected baby gate things - she's learning how to open it.... she's too darn smart!!! i'm terrified of what the future brings with this one!!!).
SOOOOO, i'll be living vicariously through your stress free life for as long as you can keep it up!!!! (hang on, i have to army crawl over to sneak a peek at the baby and make sure she doesn't have anything she shouldn't....)
okay, i'm back! i had this whole scenario of all the many places i might stop along the way, but deleted it b/c this is about YOU and how YOU are AWESOME!!! congrats again!!! :)
ps - if you really need some extra stress, borrow somebody's kids for awhile.... i have three.... i'd be happy to mail them to you.... oh but darn. they don't let us discuss personal info here. gosh. what a bummer. oh well.... it's the thought that counts, right? :D

I could borrow your baby for a while, but the new apartment has power tools and nails and screws lying around all over the place until we're done assembling furniture. She probably shouldn't have those.

Now that is funny. I'll have the stitches removed in a few days.
We don't have kids but we did raise two nephews for a few years - a very long story.
There is no man on the planet that can come close to a mother's ability to multitask several tasks and several kids simultaneously (not concurrently mind you).
This I saw with my own eyes: Mom on the phone, cooking dinner, swating kids without a pause in the conversation or a glance at the target. They know what their kids are doing, saying, and thinking about doing and saying as long as kids are within echo range - several miles minimum.
Did I mention dinner cooked on-time and un-burnt?
Amazing.
Jane,
Use your brain to devise a body-downloader. Simple quantum physics problem. Download marisuela's kids. Problem solved. Just be sure signal doesn't get scrambled on return upload which I suspect would be soon after download. :D

Took the Adderall today, I hate how I feel when I take it, I despise how i feel when it wears off, but I managed to get done a large part of what needed doing.
I think that the major problem here was just severe exhaustion. Usually, after a very stressful period, I can take several days to just recover. This time, I had to go directly from worked-to-near-collapse to working a bit more than half-time without getting even a day of actual break in between.
So, the brain grabbed one.
