hi iv just been told by a doctor that she is certain i have bipolar disorder i was in there a long time and she was asking me so many questions anyway she wants me 2 go see a shrink coz she doesnt want to do half a job and so she sent me home with lexapro but since iv been on it i cant sleep much everyday i feel like i have so much energy even tho im not sleeping much i can't sit still very long without moving i feel really energetic and im not hungry i hardy eat anything now. i know antidepressants dont work straight away but its just starting to kick in now not wen i was first taking it, has anyone else felt like this on lexapro? thanks to anyone who helps :)

I took lexapro for 3 days once and stopped. I felt like my muscles all over were bursting. Since you're bipolar and have lots of energy you might be in a manic stage. I can't diagnose you and will not but hurry up and go to the psychiatrist, he/she will get you the meds you need. It won't be just you get the right meds the first time, it'll be a process to see which ones are best for you with least shown side effects.

Ah yes, very very wise to go see a psychiatrist. If she's so certain you have bipolar, she shouldn't of started you on an antidepressant alone. It seems it may be causing you mania. Do you feel your thoughts all over the place and racing speech, high energy, moving from task to task...?

BipolarPrincess is right, the lexapro might be causing some mania in you. I would call your doctor back.

I agree with BipolarPrincess. Anti-depressants like Lexapro can cause mania in people who have bipolar if they are not taken with one or more mood stabilizers. I would definitely let your GP know this and inform your pdoc of your current manic state.

Yep the First Rule of BP never let a General Practioner give you an anti depressant, hold out on the meds until you've been in to see the pdoc(psychiatrist).
Are you still taking the Lexapro and have you made it to the pdoc yet?

hey thanks everyone for helping out yeh im still taking them she told me if i start doing stupid things to stop taking them str8 away and go c her i havnt dun anything stupid but yer im hypo and havnt seen a shrink yet she wants 2 c me in 2 weeks 1st but i dont know anything about bipolar so i think i'll just go c her and tell her wat iv been feeling like wanting 2 quit my job 2 and i dunno i get aggitated and cant sleep i need her 2 explain wat bipolar is i hav a bit of an idea but thats not enuff if i hav it, but anyway thanks every1

hey jemi200 nah i dont use aim sorry, thnx 4 helping out 2...i work nightshift during the week so im up but at wrk lolz n during the daii im up wen i should b sleeping most of the time.

Have you read the BP sticky at the top of the page? That might help you understand some more. If your mania gets too bad I would definitely call her back and just ell her you can't wait that much longer and it has to be taken care of sooner.

Well, I'd call her sooner like Kat said and get in to see a psychiatrist as soon as possible. Also as Kat mentioned, if you read the sticky up top, it will give you a better idea on Bipolar Disorder. Also there's plenty to google.

If you're still struggling with mania, I would definitely call your pdoc to let her know. You may also want to do an Internet search on "Bipolar Disorder + symptoms" to get a better idea of what they are. As has been mentioned, there is also a sticky on the home page of this board. Good luck and keep us updated on how you are doing!
