I'm on Day 8. What should I be feeling at this stage? I have cut down a lot , but still have the urge to smoke, especially in the mornings.

When do the smokes start tasting bad. I love Chantix and I know it's helping me, but I can't throw the smokes away yet. I'm down to only 5 or 6 per day from a pack a day habit.

The cigarettes never tasted bad for me - I just had no more urge to smoke. I went through only two maintenance packs and one morning I just didn't want a cigarette. I also quit the Chantix about 5 days after I quit smoking. It has been 11 days since I had a cigarette, and I still don't want one. I recognize times during the day when I would ordinarily smoke (the triggers), like after I eat, getting on the phone, etc. but there is no craving to light up. Keep it up - you'll do great!

they started tasting bad for me on about the 10th day then I got down to 1 a day
it does take a bit of willpower to quit the last 1 a day, cause then you have quit
but you will quit

How many days did it take you to get finished with two maintenance packs? My doctor just prescribed Chantix and it was filled at the Rx store just like regular medication. I'm wondering because I've been sorta going by the paperwork that came with the medicine. Thanks! P.J.

Pam1550, I believe that I finally said "I quit" on the second or third day after I started taking the Chantix. The Chantix didn't agree with me in the recommended dose, so I cut back from the instructions. Initially, I took one pill per day, and then after about a month, I cut back to 1/2 a pill per day. I still had some cravings, but I know that the Chantix was enough of a crutch to help me get by - no one ever said it was going to be easy. That was seventeen months ago after having smoked for 35+ years. I haven't purchased a pack of smokes since. I have tried a puff or two since, and darn near fell on the floor, so I know my system's been cleaned out. I still get the urge every once and awhile, but I have no intentions of going back to smoking. I never want to have to go through that quitting process again!
Best of luck to you - you CAN do it.

I think you really have to WANT to quit. I have still not picked up a cigarette since Aug. 29. I went to the doctor for a check up and she was happy I had quit, but disappointed I hadn't finished the Chantix. She wants patients to take it a full three months. But I didn't do that. I didn't like that bad dreams and weird smell in my nose. My husband started the Chantix when I did, and he is still smoking -- and taking the medicine. I don't think he will quit because he likes it too much. I will say I LOVE the new freedom it has given me. Cigarettes no longer rule my life.

Hi all
I have been on what we call it in australia "Champix" for 5 days I am starting to feel less urgency for a puff when I do feel like one I think of something else and I dont freak out. Last time i tried them I had to stop because of the terrible pains in the stomach. i am going to follow through this time I already feel that I will succeed. Stick with them they will become your new friend rather than cigs.
Good luck

I think it is different for everyone. I am on day ten and I have had no side effects nor have I smoked or had the urge to smoke since day one.

My husband started the medicine at the same time and he still has the urge to smoke. He has cut down to 2 or 3 a day but has not been able/ready to give the up totally yet.

I quit day 8 of taking champix which is what its called in australia, I had been smoking in the morning and then by afternoon I felt I had overdone it so it is now day 4 for me without a smoke yesterday was hard but they say that is when your urge peaks by day 5 - 8 I should only experience 3 cravings a day.Don't worry Champix does work stick at it you will be amazed how it helps you control the urge. I had been smoking for over 30 years and had tried everything on the market this is the only thing that has worked, mine was an addiction rather than a habit and that is what Champix address's Good luck and be proud of yourself every day you go without.
