So I went to my dentist the other day because I was having pain and swelling in my lower jaw all the way in the back. Both him and I assumed it was a wisdom tooth coming in (I'm 21 and it's about that time!). He x-rayed the area to confirm and came back a bit baffled.

There was no wisdom tooth back there. Instead, there was an abnormal bone growth coming up between my #30 and #31 molars. He referred me to an oral surgeon to have it looked at.

I have had pain and discomfort in that area for almost 2 weeks now. Do you think they will just remove the excess bone? I'm a bit nervous as I have never has any medical procedure done. I meet with the oral surgeon on Monday, but I was just curious what you all thought.

Thanks.

I've never heard of a bone spur in the mouth but I guess it's possible. I'd ask if they can shave it off like they do with bone spurs. It may have been growing for a while but it's odd that it never showed up on your regular xrays before.

I'd get more than one opinion also if you not in real bad pain or at least make sure your going to a real experienced oral surgeon. Let us know what the surgeon says.
