I just had 1 wisdom teeth extracted last Friday and all is pretty great with them. I was just enjoying some ice cream and noticed that I accidentally sort of sucked a little bit trying to get it off the spoon. I guess I do that usually...who knew? Anyway, I was trying to be careful, but am at work and not paying as close attention and I felt a little something shift in there...on the top. Felt perhaps a faint pain. Maybe I am making it up. How do you know if you sucked too hard and did something wrong to the wounds??

The risk from sucking is sucking the blood clot out of your empty socket, causing a dry socket that allows the exposed bone to get irritated and painful.

Right, I have definitely read about that. But I don't feel agonizing pain. I just feel like something is different in there, like I changed something I shouldn't have. Like...it is CLOSE to sucking the blood clot out. Or...like...I did, but the agony just hasn't arrived yet.

I hope I didn't mess it up!!!

thanks for your response!!

Dry socket is instant and extremely painful, you would know it. It also only comes in the first 3-5 days post op, as your body will have healed to the point that you cannot get a dry socket anymore.

Just keep taking it slow and keep the area clean with plenty of water rinses and you should be just fine.
