Ear pain and "fullness" since Jan. Been to ENT and had a normal MRI, so not the ear....dentist made a bite guard, hasn't helped but said I do have TMJ issues. Is the ear pain with TMJ REALLY bad? I also have some facial numbness in my forehead on the same side. When I swallow it makes the ear hurt???? When I turn my head far to the opposite side it makes it worse. Does this sound like all TMJ issues? Thank you so much!
What kind of doc do I need to see? I saw my regular dentist.

There are several members here with chronic severe ear pain due to tmj. Usually the pain is due to inflamation in and around the ear canal or compression of the area due to the lower jaw being improperly positioned, compression of the tm joints due to loss of vertical dimension within the mouth or compression or misalignment of the c-spine or neck.

You should probably look for a neuromuscular dentist or tmj dentist with training in FJO (functional jaw orthotics) and have your c-spine evaluated. Have you had MRIs of the tmjs and jaws and one of the neck yet?

I have had severe ear pain in my left ear for over 20 years. I have an attack about every other month and it lasts for 2 days. I notice that when there is a change in the barometric pressure before it rains, I will have an episode. If I am out in the wind on a cold day, I will have an episode. I gone to many doctors and dentists. I even had tubes in my ears. My hearing is fine. There is no fluid in my ear. Nothing has helped. The last specialist I saw is convinced that I have TMJ. My jaw pops when I open my mouth. And, if I press around the bottom of my left ear it crackles. The doctor told me to take Motrin (800 milligrams). The pain is almost unbearable. Motrin doesn't touch it. Last week when I was hurting, I put BioFreeze on my neck and the area around the joint. It helped some. I have come to the conclusion that it is something that I am going to have to live with. But, I am totally wiped out every time it occurs. My husband tells me that he is sure there is some doctor some where that knows how to treat me. To date, I haven't found him or her. :(
