Does lupus cause joint damage? Or does it just cause inflammation of the tissues surrounding the joints?

Hi Deb,

Actually, Lupus is known to cause inflammation and irritation of the joints (pain too). It doesn't usually break down the joints. Rheumatoid Arthritis does though- I can't remember.. does your mom have that? If so, that can cause breakdown of the joints and synovial fluid (joint fluid). Take care http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
